Jets need to make significant upgrades in FA before the draft. Woody Johnson is not shy about taking our money, it's time he spent a lot more of it getting some better players.
Well, there are a couple of good names out there... - Alan Faneca, OL, Steelers - Jared Allen, DE, Chiefs - Albert Haynesworth, DT, Titans - Terrell Suggs, OLB, Ravens - Asante Samuel, CB, Patriots - Randy Moss, WR, Patriots (like that's gonna happen)
Remember, being 27M under the cap is meaningless if a lot of teams are big time under the cap which is the case. It just drives the prices higher making the 27M worth a lot less.
Someone explain Suggs to me. Just looked at his numbers for 2007: 78 tackles and 5 sacks. Our boy Harris, only starting after about 5 or 6 games into the season, finished with the same sack total in a position not considered high for sack production. Is Suggs all he's cracked up to be?
i'd stay away from Samuel and Suggs because they'll be overpayed, though i think Suggs can bring a lot to the table. we need to spend the money on the trenches, be it getting depth or starters or both. that way, when it's time to draft, we won't have to use but one or two picks on the lines, and we can focus on getting gamechangers.
That's pretty much my line of thought. Try to fill out the trenches in FA as much as possible, avoiding overpriced guys like Samuel and Suggs. Maybe take a look at a few other guys like Randall Gay at CB. Then in the draft look for impact guys like Gholston, WR if it doesn't get addressed in FA (maybe trade up into the back of the first round from our 2nd rounder to grab Manningham or something), and also grab some depth along the lines.
yeah totally agree. because we won't address every need on the OL/DL, even signing an aging Vet for a year or two is worth it, just so we don't have to spend all of our picks on the trenches; we can wait until next year to finish filling the holes along the lines.
if Rob Ryan gets hired as our D Coordinator, and they dont Franchise this guy...expect him to become a Jet...man that would be sweet!
