This would be an amazing hire. I don't know why he would want to go here, but if he lives in NJ now and maybe his kids are in school, or he would prefer not to move it would be amazing for us. I think Daboll can actually develop a QB. He became a head coach because he developed Allen. And Allen was no slam dunk when he was drafted. He then goes to the Giants and makes Daniel Jones look very good. Jones did regress some afterwards but was also struggling with injuries, so I don't know if it is on Daboll or not. Even this year Jones started our very hot, but then was playing though the injury and did much worse.

But the point is, both Allen and Jones looked good with Daboll. Plus Dart, who was a late 1st round pick looked quite good with Daboll as well. With him we know he will not ruin a QB in one year for sure and has a good chance of developing a young QB. As a QB coach or even as OC, Daboll is pretty good. And given no one wants to come here, if Daboll does, it would be absolutely amazing. I don't think he does though.

Well I’m guessing everybody will be tuning in Friday night to the Oregon/Indiana game. What if Moore has a great game and then goes on to win the championship do to his performance? At that point he’d have to declare no? And I also believe he would move into the #1 category meaning the Jets wind up with Mendoza if they so choose….

These next two games are going to be very interesting that’s all I know …..

    Yes according to recent mocks…..

The truth is Moore strikes me as ascending stock. He has the measurables. My issue is his lack of playing time but more so the Jets inability to develop a QB of that stature. Mendoza may be a little better off in that category ….

I’m not so sure that’s true that he knew he had to sit behind Gabriel. Last year Lanning stated he had a QB competition with Moore transferring in. Gabriel beat him out.

I love his quick release, strong anrm and his height but I’m not sure it’s enough to lead a NFL franchise.

I think it is good thing. It would be pretty devastating if Moore does not declare, but I do think Simpson is a 1st round talent and worth a shot with the Colts pick or even our second rounder/small trade up into the 1st a la Dart. Watching him play, obviously he is nowhere near as exciting as the top two, and probability of success is low, but neither was Dart. He does have a live arm. Though we need to see his size if he is actually 6-2 as listed. If he is shorter I personally would be less interested. But if he is 6-2, I would be interested, assuming Moore is not there.

I did notice Simpson had shit OL and WRs could not catch the ball a lot either. Granted he was also inconsistent towards the end, but if Moore is not there, I would still draft him later in the 1st round and see how he does in the second half of the year. If he looks like Dart, maybe we have something. And if not, we Josh Rosen him, and try again next year. Yeah that means we wasted a mid-late 1st round pick, but until we find a QB, none of the shit we do matters anyway.

He is 5 years younger than Gabriel. So even if a 24 year old Gabriel, who was a good College QB, beat out 19 year old Moore, it does not mean much. Moore made incredible strides in a year, and he is still only 20 now. Where was Gabriel when he was 20 years old? And I thought he made strides throughout this season actually. It will be really interesting to see the game against Indy again, that's the only game they lost this year, to see if he can actually show that growth against the same opponent.

But Moore has a lot more than a strong arm and quick release. It's what's behind the ears that is most promising. For all the comparisons to Fields and Zach, these guys got amazing protection and would hold onto the ball until 1st read would get open, and then throw it. Moore if anything has the opposite problem, sometimes he processes too quickly and moves on from the read that he could throw to potentially. That INT that he had when he had to throw on the 4th down against Texas Tech, he basically went through 4 reads, and had no choice but to throw to the 4th one as he was getting sacked. The 2nd or 3d read he had was actually open enough where he could have thrown it, but he looked for a better one and ended up with no choice but to throw it to inferior situation, since it was 4th down and he was about to get sacked.

Which is why given Wilson and Fields PTSD it's easy to say, Moore is also a top athletic prospect with good arm, similar 6-2/6-3 height, quick release motion (that applies more to Zach, not to Fields) so it's the same guy, but he is not. And I was guilty of that too, I looked for these qualities 1st and foremost. But after Zach/Fields fiasco, I now firmly believe processing matters even more than athletic traits, even though it is good to have both, which Moore does.

Moore is on the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to anticipation and processing than Zach and Fields. And it is not a bad thing to be a good athlete with a plus arm. As far as release, it is smooth, and again a good thing. I do see what @Jonathan_Vilma is talking about when it comes to not stepping into the pocket on some occasions. I liked that he actually stepped in on one of the plays from TT game I posted, where he stepped in moved to the right and connected to the opposite hash between 3 defenders, so he is improving in that area as well. That's another thing he does well, throws dots on the run to the opposite hash and accurately as well. He only started 20 games, which is a concern of course, and could be just 21 before it is said and done even if he wins on Friday.

But overall, it's obvious why the kid is top 2, and maybe even 1 prospect. If he declares and there at #2, run to the podium and don't think twice about it. Sure he can bust, and no one knows. QB is the hardest position to evaluate even for former NFL QBs and top offensive coaches. I mean Shanahan drafted Lance for fuck's sake. Shanahan. But still it is clear he gives good enough probability where taking him at 2 is a no brainer.

I really hope you're right about Moore Borat. I don't really see it yet but I think we're probably going to take him now that we're picking 2nd instead of 3rd.

Anyway, we should all be rooting for Moore to blow the doors off Indiana tomorrow and then win the natty. Both because it makes Moore look better for our sake and because it makes it a tiny bit more likely the Raiders talk themselves into him over Mendoza.

Sadly I think Brady convinces them to take Mendoza

Don't think it matters much between the 2 QB. Really very hard to predict success in NFL at this position. What is necessary is for the Jets to get an acceptable prospect at 2. Either guy works. In fact, I would say this is THE crucial year to get a QB. AS long as Moore comes out. 2027 is unpredictable. Unless you have top 5 pick, its more of a guess on the QB. And we will certainly have different QB in 2026, plus new players, so we might finish with much better record and much worse draft pick.

I think this makes sense. On paper at least, the 2027 draft class is looking far superior. However; that could always change and there is no guarantee that we'd be in a better position to select a top prospect.

My clear preference is for Mendoza just because he seems to have the higher floor and I feel like he's more mature and harder for the Jets to F up. Most of what I heard is that there is not a ton of separation between Moore and Mendoza. Definitely nothing like between Lawrence and everybody else in the 2021 draft.

If Moore choose to return to Oregon, that changes everything. I don't think I would want to see the Jets take a shot at a QB before Round 2 if it's not one of these 2 guys.

The thing I keep wondering - if the Jets take a shot on a QB this year and he doesn't show enough in year 1, are they bold enough to move on and choose a 1st round QB AGAIN in 2027. Only team I have seen do this is the Cardinals when they moved on from Josh Rosen and took Kyler Murray in 2019.

SPOT ON. I mean I can like Moore more, someone else can like Mendoza. None of us really know. We are not better than another QB evaluator. But it seems clear that consensus is these are the two highest probability QB prospects in the draft by a wide margin and we desperately need a QB. We need to come up with whoever is not taken by the Raiders and that's it. And I agree with @REVISion we need to hope Moore kicks ass and declares. Then our probability of having a good young QB increases.

What we do know is that whoever we take will end up being a bust. and the other guy will succeed. and maybe once our bust heads to another team he will succeed. It's been the same story for forever.

I'm not opposed to this but it depends on how poorly the rookie does next season. If he's awful, yeah, everything is on the table, including using our highest pick in 2027. If he's just mediocre, maybe you take another QB with a later first round pick.

Lots of rookie QBs have bad first years, it's when they have bad second years that you should really start to worry.

It's hard to overstate how important QB is though so I'm not opposed to doubling up. You really can't have sustained success without one. If we look at the current playoff teams, they don't all have great QBs but none of them have a QB worse than average. And the ones who are serious contenders for the SB almost all have very good QBs.

This reminds me of 2021 when I didn't give a shit who we chose between Fields and Wilson, then they both went on to be two of the worst QBs I've ever seen.

In fact, it's really unimportant as to who has better career in NFL as long as the Jets guy has a good one. I would settle for any QB who is a top 10. I don't expect my guy to be the top, as long as he is good.

Maybe sign Willis in FA and draft a QB. If Moore is available go for it. He's young but having an older QB with experience for early next year would be a good way to go.

I feel like I can answer this with about 95% certainty. If the Jets take a QB at 2, in 2026, there is no way in frozen Hell they take another QB at the top of the draft in 2027, which is where we would most likely be. To, literally, take a match to 2026's #2 pick, after one year, would set the fandom on fire. Right now, we are a "house fire" but if you want to escalate that to a full blown city-wide fire...yeah, draft "another" QB in the top 5 in 2027 and see what happens. Arizona is NOT NY. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

Because you are always right when it comes to QB evaluations? You would be the 1st.
