Glad we’re continuing to look for more defensive line depth. No need to look at adding anymore offensive lineman, receivers, safeties, or running backs.
How many teams have a speed option in their play book to consistently check to it when they see a backup defensive end in the game? Baltimore? Philly? Maybe the Bills but they run Allen into piles regardless of whose playing defense.
well a lot of teams are running that little jet sweep flip to the receiver that accomplishes the same thing: getting to the edge quickly
Joe...you sneaky Douglas...getting all these over the hill guys when no one else is watching. I see what you did there. Boom or bust right. Don't build methodically. Go in all in for one shining season with super high risk guys....There you go Joe. Why didn't any of the other 30 teams in the league get on board. Hmmm I wonder.
Didn’t the Jets ask him to bulk up? He did and became slow off the edge. Either you let him lean up and use his natural strength or he stays inside and beefs up there. I think the latter happens this upcoming season.
Justin Hardee to Cleveland per Rap. Boyer loses a good one, punt coverage was significantly better with him on the field.
The constant rules changes are trying to eventually eliminate the return game altogether, it makes no sense to give millions of dollars to a cornerback that can't play cornerback.
Older name vets cost money, and they typically need to marinate without a contract for a while longer before their "I need to secure a 2024 job" asking price goes down. I'm still half expecting that Zek signing. Although pretty sure I read a few days back that the Jets were currently dead last in the NFL with like $2m in cap room atm
Hardee played 11 games last year. In those games there was a total of 2 40+ yard returns, 0 tds. 6 games without him 4 40+ yard returns, 1 td. That's a significant difference. Hardee also commands double teams on punt coverage which frees up a man, Charles and Brownlee do not.
The Jets clearly had no interest in bringing back Hardee. Or Huff. I always side with the team with decisions like that. They should be fine on special teams.
I agree that it will definitely be a loss for STs. I may be wrong, but I think that the Jets had little interest in bringing him back since he only played STs, cap space is precious, and he was taking up a precious roster spot. I think they'd rather have STs guys who can participate on offense or defense and who are cheaper.
He was certainly a cap casualty. He's one of the best in the league at what he does and gets paid accordingly. I'm saying that someone like Irv Charles is not going to come near matching his influence on the game and we shouldn't expect him to.
