Tonight's colts game showed how poorly Douglas' 2020 draft was. Four of their top 5 picks stink--Mims, Davis, Zuniga, and Perine. Mims dropped another wide open pass. Although Zuniga had a sack last week, the Colts ran right at him and over him all night--he cannot hold the line of scrimmage. Perine is hardly ever active or plays. But the worst player is S Davis. I saw him slip and fall three times tonight including on Taylor's 78 yard run when he had a clear shot at Taylor. I don't think Davis has done a damn thing this year on the field. The jets 2022 draft needs to be OL, TE and DEFENSE!
He's way worse the Eric Smith. I don't think I've ever seen such a bad safety as Davis. Horrible angles, can't cover, hell can't even occupy the correct area of the field. He also never comes up to tackle. He braces himself 10-15 yards away from the runner everytime. He will never see an NFL field again once he's off the jets.
JDs first ever draft as a GM and a year of COVID and no combine/open practices. 2020 ain't gonna make or break us. 2021 and beyond will
It’s not even that. It’s the fact Becton has been hurt two years in a row. And Mims, who we traded way down for, can’t get into he field and when he does looks awful. you HAVE to hit on the first two picks. All other rounds are speculative. Just awful from JD
I do not think anyone is denying that. What is going overlooked is the issue with COVID and how that affected how GMs could evaluate talent. Look at other 2020 first round picks: Lions - Jeff Okudah (has been injured constantly) Giants - Andrew Thomas (injuries and has been struggling) Dolphins - Tua Tagovaiola (injuries and struggling) Panthers - Derrick Brown (has 2 sacks in 2021) Jaguars - CJ Henderson (traded and largely irrelevant) Browns - Jedrick Willis Jr. (injured all year so far) Raiders - Henry Ruggs III (DUI and prison time) 49ers - Javon Kinlaw (out for year) Dolphins - Austin Jackson (struggling so moved to guard now) Raiders - Damon Arnette (facing legal trouble from car crash) Eagles - Jalen Reagor (injured) The list goes on and on. Yes, some teams hit on guys like Joe Burrow, Chase Young, Justin Herbert, Tristan Wirfs, and CeeDee Lamb, but Mekhi Becton has been one of the best players in the 2020 first round thus far.
I’m not exaggerating when I say this: Ashtyn Davis may be the worst player I’ve ever seen play defense for the Jets. I can’t think of someone who has looked more lost and incompetent from the top to the bottom of every game.
agreed. He’s so soft. There’s a reason he was a walk on from the track team, he’s not a football player. A defensive player should never shy from contact like he does
I'm sorry, I am not buying that. Sure, COVID had a deep affect on the game and preparations, but everyone was on an equal playing field. It's not like COVID game some teams an advantage and others a disadvantage.
That's an insult to Eric Smith.... while the dude definitely got beat/lost in coverage, he at least laid the lumber on guys when he made a hit.
There are some crap players that were drafted for sure. Davis, Perine, Zuniga. Mims looks like he is going to be there as well. Having said that, if JD can walk away from that draft with a starting LT, potential CB1 and a legitimate punter, I think he'll get a pass. Thats also not including Huff and Guidry who are legitimate players as well.
i'm willing to give that draft a pass and lord knows i LOVE to rip any and all jet drafts, past and present. i firmly believe that if u compared the consensus fan selection of the 1st 3 rounds, going back 40 years of drafts, to the actual jet picks - the fan selections would clearly come out on top - with most metrics. we'll use 2021 as the 1st step.
Are you suggesting that NO teams had success in the first round this year? I'd like more insight into how that draft compared to others before I draw any conclusions.
I do not remember stating that NO teams had success in the first round. Although, I do remember listing a bunch of the first round picks who have been terrible and then listing a few of the big hits in the first round. Let me know what you find regarding the comparing of the drafts
Colts lit us up with Michael Pittman Jr. and Jonathan Taylor last night. Both drafted in that 2020 draft
It doesn't look too good now, but the final grades are far from in. It's only been one and a half seasons.
