Would've preferred a skill position player with more upside like Harmon or Ridley, but I'll give this guy a chance before writing him off.
They'll move him around. He'll protect Sam and is a big strong dude. I see a lot of 2 TE with him and Herndon on the field at the same time. He's nasty and I love the pick. So will Le'Veon.
If we couldn't get Butler I guess Wesco is a pretty nice consolation ... the more I read/hear about this guy the more I love this pick. Truth be told, yes we've got positions that we are in greater need of upgrading but to simply pick a prospect because of that need isn't smart drafting.
I had other ideas of what I thought the Jets should do before rd. 4 started. You can find a silver lining in every pick. The guy tested like Anthony Becht but his tape looks better. I don’t like how the board fell. This is the sort of pick like the boar hunter that you get excited about because he looks mean... we’ll see.
If Becht was drafted in the 4th round he would have been an absolute steal. Becht was a beast in the run game and one of the best TE in the league at sealing the edge. Our run game collapsed the year he left. This guy looks way more athletic than Becht. Becht was a terrible draft pick and a very useful player in spite of the fact he couldn't catch or stay on his feet after the catch.
Question - what did the Jets get for trade down from pick 114 to 121... They have the 19th pick in rd. 5 so it’s not like they moved up all that much...
He has to have better hands then Becht, Becht used to drop passes in practice at Hofstra, but he was a great blocker
If we can get Piersbacher in Round 5 I'd be thrilled with that; Wesco just seems like a 'nice to have' vs. 'need to have'. Herndon is our primary TE. We have a few backups after that. Wesco might be an upgrade on those guys, but think about our WRs for a moment: We've got Anderson, Enunwa (who is nearly TE sized), and Crowder. Then you've got Le'Veon Bell out of the backfield catching short passes. If Herndon is on the field too...you really need Wesco out there? If anything, we need an upgrade at WR to play outside the numbers, not another TE. Who is hiking our franchise QB the ball? The only center on our roster right now is the immortal Jon Toth. I don't want to spend time and risk injury with Le'Veon Bell blocking giant D-lineman our fantasy center whiffed on. I'm sure he's a wonderful football player & all, but...with Wesco seems like we got a nice depth guy who can help out, but we need a legit starter at Center, a CB, and some other guys as well.
I was led to believe that there is no such thing as coincidences. this has deep meaning to some big government conspiracy we just haven't figured out what it means yet.
