Out from 2018: James Carpenter, Leonard Williams, Quincy Enunwa New this year: Sam Darnold, CJ Mosley, Rontez Miles, Kelvin Beachum Retained: Jamal Adams, Steve McLendon
Makes sense to me. All seem like leaders. Has a captain ever been cut in the NFL. I guess there has been. Miles I fear might get cut but good for him. Seems like a team leader and someone who is easy to root for knowing he comes from a small school udfa, been on the practice squad, and the injury he overcame and everything.
I dont see any reality where Miles gets cut. The coaching staff has been talking him up all offseason and he is a key special teams player.
It just seems weird to me to have 6 team captains. Doesn't seem like that much of an honor when that many players are captain. At that rate, in a year or two, we could have the whole team go out for the coin toss.
I think most teams have 5-6 team captains going by last year's list. The whole thing is just for show anyway, the leaders are the leaders regardless of what they are labeled.
I agree with you. Think he'll be around but every year there are rumblings he might get cut. Two years ago he got injured but other than that has been on the team now for 3 years consistently. As someone mentioned the 6 captains do seem to be the team leaders.
Why would anyone see any reality where he does get cut? Hes a damn good player whenever hes been on the field, hes the perfect partner for Adams. Or do you think he should be dumped for having one injury season?
Not really. Captains meet with CS for a number of different reasons, complaints, suggestions, etc. They also help discipline the players, run the kangaroo court, fine players for any different number of offenses Just heard an interview with Strahan talking about Coughlin being a tyrant and on the behalf of the team he met with him, argued with hom and told Coughlin if he diddnt change his ways he would lose the team, he has lost many. Led to Coughlin changing his ways
It looks like the Jets won't be getting leadership for that $14.2 million they're paying you know who in 2019. It's a inauspicious start to the year for you know who. No matter as long as the team gets lotsa lotsa sacks for their $14.2 million. Then we'll all be happy.
Or it could be a sign this is a special team. I like that Darnold is one and look no C on his jersey was required.
I'd gladly take an insufferable team that brings a Lombardy to Metlife and sets it down to live in Florum Park
Once Santonio Holmes was named a captain, I stopped thinking that it mattered Does it matter? I suppose it's an honor, but does it matter to the players that much other than creating jealousy?
^You beat me on Holmes. What an embarrassment that was. The guy got paid a gazillion dollars, was named Team Captain, freaked out during the Miami game, started belittling and cursing at his teammates, sulked, quit on the game, quit on the team, and then got benched by Schottenheimer, NOT Rex Ryan. O Captain! My Captain! Oh, wait, that's a poem about the Lincoln assassination by Walt Whitman, my bad.
Of course it matters. Just about anywhere you go there is a heirarchy. Much of it is unspoken people know who the leaders/captains/bosses are.
