The Jets have a bunch of FA who will be considered amongst whichever coaching staff comes in. Should stay: David Harris* Leger Douzable* Bilal Powell Tanner Purdum Damon Harrison* Jaiquawn Jarrett *Priority Signings Should Go: KYLE WILSON Phillip Adams Ben Ijalana Willie Colon Jermaine Cunningham Mike Vick John Conner Dawan Landry Maybe Either Way: Greg Salas Kenrick Ellis Nick Bellore David Harris is still a top LB in this league. Whether he's overpaid, overrated, or vice versa, you cannot argue that he is very productive on this team. This team needs the hitman to make tackles and lead the defense as a veteran. Especially with such a huge regime change where the group needs to stay together. Leger Douzable has performed wonderfully in the absence of Muhammad Wilkerson. Having Leger is a huge piece in this DL, since he can still be productive while the other players can rest. God forbid Sheldon or Wilk get injured, Leger can step in and do a top notch backup job. Damon Harrison is easily the most under-rated nose tackle in the league. He is an absolute monster, especially in run defense. The Jets need him in order to maintain the strength they have at D line. Bilal Powell is the most complete back on this team. I think the Jets should let go of Chris Johnson (CJ) and stick with the Ivory-Powell duo. CJ had one or two good plays during the year, but was underwhelming. Save the 4-5 million for a better player. Please god get rid of Kyle Wilson. Also rid the Jets of the awful corners and lineman. Bohanon will be back (bye bye John Conner) and Mike Vick's services are no longer needed. Salas very productive, but i can only hope that the next GM brings in more WR talent (especially with the loaded FA market) that Greg Salas' talent isn't even enough to make the roster. He was a good "fill-in" guy, but he's not a key piece nor should be on the roster in a talented corp. Kenrick Ellis was actually one of the more productive players for the amount of snaps he got. He's never a guy that's going to make a huge play to turn around a game, but he's a value player. He will cost so little to keep, and provide a lot of help in return. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Agree, Disagree? Please state opinion below.
Great thread, and it's a good time to start thinking about this. I for the most part agree. I would surely let Salas go. The kid that blew up week 17 can take his spot. I would let Harris go too, unless he signs for really cheap. The way I see it, we won't be SB contenders for at LEAST 2 years, likely more. If/When that time comes, Harris will be a weakness. I say we should just replace him now.
This is also almost impossible to predict. It would be this way even if we had a returning CS, and FO, but we will have all new everything. So who knows what the new people in charge are going to want. I'm just thankful we don't have any "must sign" guys.
You didn't mention Johnson or Harvin who can both be cut or at the very least restructured and in the process pick up another 14M in cap space.
Harrison is the guy I would like to see back the most. Wouldn't mind bringing douzable back to keep our strong line mostly in tact. The rest of the should stay list I am indifferent about. However one guy on the should go list I would consider keeping is Dawan Landry. I think he played well for us this year but it was hard to see it with all the bad corner play. As far as Harris goes sentimentally I want him back and think he could be solid another year or two but remember how quickly Bart Scott dropped off? If they decided to part ways with Harris I would be ok with it. Most important thing is to extend Wilkerson and I wouldn't mind them locking up Sheldon either who I think has become more of a force than Wilk. I know they likely wait on Sheldon though.
Only guys worth keeping on that list are Harrison, Landry, and Ellis. Everyone else can fuck right off.
I would add Kenrick Ellis to the priority signings list, and John Conner should stay. Other than that I agree with the OP lists.
All of our defensive free agents are locks to follow Rex assuming he ends up in Atlanta. We just better resign Snacks he's great at stoping the run
Landry can walk,Harris might be the most underated player for the Jets in the last decade.Lead the team with 124 tackles and had 5.5 sacks .Who's gonna replace that?not to mention he is the QB of the defense
So long as we don't overpay anyone, I'm happy keeping whoever we want to keep. Super Bowl teams know now to keep good players without overpaying them and know how to let go talents who will only stay if they're overpaid. Such is life in the salary cap era.
Im pissed we haven't been able to trade of Kyle Wilson in the past couple years. What a wasted Draft pick
maybe a few other guys trickle over at minimum deals, but they will be the targets to give rex players who know his system at all 3 levels.
Barnes plays OLB not MLB and has been injured and unproductive. What does Barnes change exactly?I'm expecting us to cut him
Anyway. That being said, I really do hope we sign Snacks back. We don't HAVE to though. That's all I meant.
He played in 6 games and had 4 tackles,we haven't seen anything amazing from this guy ......your saying he's a starter next year?
