Isn't the idea of a big board just to rank the skill-level of the players? Guards are just less valuable than tackles, but I think Warmack is better at what he does than Fisher is.
That's the opinion of that person's board, I disagree, Eric Fisher should be rated higher based on his ability and value at LT. A team follows their board to draft players, therefore they would draft Warmack over Fisher.
Gotta be honest...i think Warmack is a far superior prospect to Fisher. I watch alot of big 10 ball. As such I saw Fisher on almost a weekly basis. Clearly he was the best Linemen on the field. But he wasn't as dominant as you would think. He tends to rely alil too much on his feet/wingspan while in pass pro and saavy defenders take advantage w/ quality counter moves. His size & current profile portray him as a top LT prospect. Long term I think he's better suited for RT. To be fair I thouht the same thing about Jake Long when he came out so go figure.
I can't grasp a guard in the top 10 prospects, let alone the 2nd spot on the ladder. It just does not compute. Guards are not key players. They're supporting players. The Alabama line has been among the best in the country for years now. Warmack has better players playing alongside him than anybody else in that top 20 range except for Fluker. It's a weird year because the QB's, RB's and WR's aren't top 10 material. That doesn't mean the best guards should take their spots. If a kicker was the best kicker ever does he belong in the top 10? How about a fullback, best blocking fullback ever, does he belong there? It just doesn't make sense and I'm hoping the Jets aren't the team that falls into the trap of drafting a great guard in the top 10.
the fastest way to the QB is up the middle, that should be a strength of your team not just something you fill and hope works out Cooper/Warmack will make Ferguson and Mangold better or you can throw them on the right side and they'll make Howard better and Mangold can now help Colon or Ducasse while Ferguson can finally play one on one, facts are Mangold has to help Moore and Slauson last year and that killed us
No, it shouldn't be the strength of the team. There are THREE blockers right in the middle to stop two primary rushers in the middle, at least one of whom is usually there for his bulk and inability to be moved easily as opposed to his ability to rush the passer. There's no way any of the three guys in the middle should be one of your major stars, although the center is the one who touches the ball every down and often calls the blocking assignments and adjustments, so if there's going to be a star there make it him. The reason the tackles are more important is that faster people are lined up outside and most blitzers come from outside as well. In the old days when ground and pound was the rule for successful playoff performance you could make an argument that the guards were nearly as important as the tackles. Not as important, but nearly as important. Those days are gone now. Nobody wins championships by running the ball 60% of the time in snowy weather these days. Next year's Super Bowl not withstanding, the Super Bowl is almost always played in balmy weather these days. A guard is just not an impact position any more. They're like cornerbacks, you really notice when you have a bad one but as long as your guys are decent you're going to win based on other people's contributions most of the time.
keeping a strong interior line gives a quarterback space to step into, its not all about the run game and the fact that we have a weak interior line tells you a lot. Cooper should be our pick since Dion Jordan is not there, he's a pick you wont regret and will help Brick and Mangold extend their careers the Jets would be hell to fuck with in the trenches with that O-Line and D-Line
