I could have swore I posted this last night, but I must have been dreaming. Anyway, who would be the best choices for coverage or 3 down OLB?
Dion Jordan Jarvis Jones Are the 2 most complete 3-4 OLB However many guys have a ton of upside my favorite is Ezekial Ansah who has the highest ceiling
You state that like its fact... One could argue that Dion Jordan, Werner or Jones could have the highest ceiling...
Damontre Moore Jarvis Jones Dion Jordan Anthony Barr Barkevious Mingo Sam Montgomery Ezekial Ansah Corey Lemonier That's how I would rank them, but I doubt we get the top 2, but I wanna see the combine and see how these guys are, I also got to watch tape, I swear to god it is easy as fuck to be a scout, I could have drafted better players in the top 3 rounds than this regime.
Rush the passer Set the edge Cover Jarvis Jones isn't a stud in coverage but he holds his own Dion Jordan is a stud in coverage and both sets the edge and rushes the passer very well As far as Ziggy Ansah he's a blank slate and has freak athleticism a coach like Rex can do wonders with him his ceiling is so high he's almost too much of a risk is my point A guy like Werner is pretty much etched into what he's going to be and will continue to improve on his skill set while Ansah well who knows
I don't think so, they talk about him leaning towards staying in school, but people say he will think about the draft. People think he should stay, but it's gonna be hard for him to pass up maybe the top 10, $$$, and to top his production this year, and maybe injuries, but as of now he hasn't said
Watched tape on Corey Lemonier, he is very good, he gets chipped a ton and is very good at getting in the pocket. He has a good motor, and he is a pretty good pass rusher, I must say his stats are deceiving because he gets a lot of doubles and attention, because it is just him
But if Barr comes out, he has to be the pick, this guy just started playing OLB!!!! Lose for this kid, he is relentless, has good pass rush moves, fast, and he has good size for the position (6'5 245)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7-C4-W_WQA He was completely dominant against Colorado and I just love this so much..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv3Q2FAqcdw
Jordan is phenomenal in both he covers TE, slot receivers and Running Backs Jones is solid in man coverage and reliable in zone coverage However I think we need an elite pass rusher more than a complete one Also Barr is going back to school
Mingo belongs above no one on that list. Werner should be on it and near the top, but he will be long gone by the time we draft. Jones's medical issues scare me. I would not draft him in the top half of the first because his career could be significantly shortened. Talent wise he is a top five type guy, his combine evaluations are key. Others on here call Dion Jordan complete, I just don't see it. He is a freak athlete but far too lean to be a three down player right now. Setting the edge will be a problem for him till he gains a good deal of muscle. Ansah is one of my favorites for where we should pick and that's assuming we have Rex and / or a 34 D next year. I would expect Ansah, Jordan and Montgomery to all be around at our pick. Guys like chase Thomas and margus hunt should be in the mix after the first. There seems to be good depth at the position this year.
My problem is Bjoern Werner is pretty heavy for a 3-4 OLB I think he is like 270 I see him being a 4-3 end, but yeah they gotta check a lot of medical histories and stuff like than
I tend to ignore the combines by and large, except for players coming back from injuries to test their health and linemen when it comes to strength and endurance tests. I could care less about how a player times in the 40 wearing shorts since in the NFL players are almost never at a full sprint, I care about football speed not a 40 time and the two are very different. I think too many players move up or down draft boards based on combines and I always look for guys who drop in the combines due to slow speeds as being better value picks with upsides than guys who climb at the combines and often become over valued for the combine times compared to their football "Speed".
Both of our starting OLB's are 265. 270 is fine for an OLB depending on height, length of arms, and ability to move in space.
I'm not saying you don't pay any attention at all, but I think many teams, and draftniks, put way too much emphasis on combine results. I don't mean to say you don't make slight adjustments off of it, but someone who rises a lot or falls alot after the combine results are players to avoid if they rise alot and players to pay attention to as value picks if they fall alot. Gholston, among many others, have turned me off of combine results as anything more than a relatively minor modifying factor.
Where we are picking does OLB or OL offer better value do you think. My thoughts are with Wilk and Q playing like studs if we bring back Thomas on the cheap and shit can Bart/Pace and draft a OLB in the first that gives us a great D. With the pressure that Q/Wilk bring and if Ellis can hold his own we are an OLB away from having a great D.
