The weigh-ins were today... WVU RB Noel Devine showed up at only 160 pounds. His draft stock takes a hit. Baylor nose tackle Phil Taylor weighed in at 337. He could be this year's Dan Williams. Miami defensive lineman Allen Bailey weighed in 278 pounds. That's a little lighter than I thought. He was supposedly the most impressive looking player at weigh ins. Here are some guys we should keep an eye on: NORTH SQUAD Everyone's favorite pass rusher Jeremy Beal - 6'2 268 (excellent size for Ryan's scheme) Oklahoma safety Quinton Carter - 6'0 211 BC linebacker Mark Herzlich - 6'3 250 Cal defensive end Cameron Jordan - 6'4 287 Purdue Ryan Kerrigan DE/OLB - 6'3 255 Rutgers safety Joe Lefeged - 5'11 208 Notre Dame defensive tackle Ian Williams - 6'1 311 SOUTH SQUAD Texas Sam Acho DE/OLB - 6'1 257 NC State linebacker Nate Irving - 6'1 242 Clemson defensive tackle Jarvis Jenkins - 6'3 309 Clemson safety DeAndre McDaniel - 6'0 213 Mississippi State defensive tackle Pernell McPhee - 6'2 274 (disappointing considering the university lists him at 6'4 288) Arizona DE/OLB Brooks Reed - 6'2 257 LSU linebacker Kelvin Sheppard - 6'2 250
After looking over these rosters, it's a damn shame Ryan Broyles, Michael Floyd, and Justin Blackmon didn't enter the draft. The senior receiving class is weak.
I don't like Scott Wright at all, but you guys should check out his Senior Bowl coverage. It's so incredibly gay that it's hilarious. This is how he described some defenders: Jeremy Beal - "Very average with little tone and a big butt" Ryan Kerrigan - "Well defined and very muscular. Abs!" Ian Williams - "Fireplug who is thick and solid with a bubble butt." I don't know how people can respect his opinion after stuff like this...
MSU LB Greg Jones' height surprised me at 5-11. Not that he was listed much taller(6-1), but that will hurt him a bit. And USA's Courtney Smith might be someone to watch, big WR from a small school. His stock will get scalding hot between now and the draft, freakish athlete...
I was very impressed during his weigh in, looked just about as impressive as a 340 pound man can. I'll be watching him big time to see if he backs up that solid weigh in this week. Another guy that looked impressive in the weigh in, and so far of what i've seen in the practice has looked good in coverage, good hips. Some other observations/thoughts (early): I knew Titus Young was fast but wow, not THAT fast and elusive! Very impressive for me so far today and i'll be keeping an eye on him as well as Dwayne Harris this week. Keep an eye on Bilal Powell this week. He's a guy who has struggled with injuries up until this year and really had a good year. I'm interested in seeing how he fares against this top competition and is a guy that I've targeted as a possible late round RB for us. (My sleeper player at RB if you must) Carimi has looked good today, kid is STRONG. I admittedly haven't seen much of Kerrigan before this and he is everything that has been advertised about him, impressive physique and was playing with a non-stop motor.
It'll be interesting to see who becomes the top tackle prospect. Right now, it's a very close race between at least five players. I'm sure the smoke will clear after the combine though.
His situation is similar to former UGA and current Tennessee Titan LB Rennie Curran. I can't see him dropping further than the middle of the third...unless he screws up at the combine. He's been getting a lot of buzz. Like I said earlier in this thread, the senior receiving class is weak - so he's got a chance to earn some money this week.
I agree, it doesn't ruin his stock, still a good LB, abet shorter than expected. Courtney Smith will benefit greatly from postseason workouts and games. One, it gets his name out there, and two, he gets to display what he couldn't in USA's run orientated offense...
Phil Taylor is a guy who wouldn't be bad for us in the first round depending on who falls to us. If we drafted him we could move Pouha to DE where he has played before. A rotation of Taylor, Devito, Pouha, and Gilbert/Tevaseu/Pitoitua would be great. However, Taylor can rise, as Mr.e pointed out he could be this year's Dan Williams and I still would rather an OLB, but he definitely should be an option.
He looked better against costanzo. I think he had his hand down the entire time, but that's not excuse. I liked how Cameron Jordan moved in the little coverage that NFLN provided today. \ I still want Ian Williams in the 3rd, but he may go sooner.
Remember that episode of South Park where Mr. Garrison rights the best romance novel of all time but it turns out to be the gayest thing ever written? That.
Beal got dominated by a player that outweighs him by almost 60 pounds. He has to play linebacker at the next level.
With the multiple fronts the Jets play with, I wonder if this will cause them to go elsewhere. Kerrigan dropped 8 lbs to be more fluid in 34 pass coverage. I'm excited to watch him saturday. I think he can be another leader added to the LB corp. The Jets already have two on the inside. I rewatched the film on Sheard against miami. I think after teams talk to him about the arrest, he can be taken in the top 40. He and Bart Scott will love playing side by side. There are pass rushers to be had in this draft. I'd be really pissed to see none of them on the Jets.
You definitely know that dude is hiding in the players locker rooms stroking his pastrami behind the curtains. Freak.
A few notes from Monday: Just the good, there was a lot of bad (Locker). . Kaepernick: looked real good. Showed poise and made some very nice throws. A favorite of mine that is in my Top 100. Mechanics need cleaned up, but this kid has potential to be special. Titus Young : made a couple of terrific catches and burned a few corners. Looks small, but plays big. Joe Lefeged : had an INT (bad throw by Jake L) and looked very smooth in coverage, a player the Jets should consider (Round 3 or 4). Passed my "eyetest" doesn't look lost. Doesn't look afraid to come up and support the run. May not be an elite Safety but could develop into a solid starter. Vincent Brown: I haven't see too much of Brown this season, but WOW he looks like a Round 1 player. Could be this Senior Bowl's big riser. Ryan Kerrigan: unblockable, some team in mid round 1 is going to get a terrific player, Cameron Jordan: if Ellis doesn't return, couild be our #1 pick. Always liked Jordan and today he showed a non-stop motor and beat his man consistently. You can tell this kid loves football.
I just keep envisioning Kerrigan's name getting called when the Pats go OTC with Oak's pick. And it keeps making me sick to my stomach.
