Probably. It looks like Rex and Tanny are just not interested in anything available. If they chose not to pick a LB, they did so for good reason. In Rex and Tanny We Trust.
probably yes... but I think aLB (either ILB or OLB) will be brought in along with a DB or someone along the OL.
Guys like Jeremy Beal and Steven Friday are still available, they could be possibilities. Also, I think that you're discounting just how much guys like Wilkerson and Ellis could affect our pass rush. If you look at the tape from last year, in pass rush situations, our D-Line really just didn't eat up as many blockers as you'd desire. As a result, our LBs were chipped or blocked too often on blitzing plays. Adding these guys to the rotation are going to help out big time with this problem.
Cheating off WW85 here, but when the Jets picked at 126, these were some of the names that were being considered as BPA at positions of "need"..... Davon House CB (Gone to GB at 131) Deunta Williams, S Tyler Sash, S Deandre McDaniel, S Chris Carter, OLB (Gone to Pitt at 162) 40+ picks later, what's up with Williams, Sash and McDaniel still sitting there?!? Jets have a long way to go to pick again (another 40 or so), but maybe they trade up using future picks or the 2 7s from today...Does anyone have an updated list to share?
Up to this point, we've chosen players who we've clearly shown a lot of interest in. Have there been any later round guys who are still on the board who fit this mold? If so, I can really see us trading to a spot where we can nab them (or staying put, of course).
Boom. Right on the money. The d-line boost is gonna greatly improve the pass rush, way WAY better than any LB possibly could. Ellis absorbing two blockers, Wilkerson bringing pressure from the outside... if he can command an occasional double-team, that's absolute havoc. The problem the Jets had at the end of the regular season and a little bit in the Steelers game was that their linebackers were being picked up by offensive linemen, and unbalanced sets were destroying the run defense (Mendenhall took advantage of this in the first half of the AFCCG). Now, this will awaken Harris's pass rush ability because he won't constantly be marked by an o-lineman or good blocking RB, which was a huge impediment to his effectiveness in the pass defense. Give Rex credit for getting creative on ways to bring pressure (secondary blitzes etc.), but the Jets needed a huge boost to the traditional linebacker approach. Look at what happened when everyone thought Ray Lewis was done in Baltimore for that one season. Then they grab Ngata and BOOM-- guy's back in business. That's no coincidence. This time, the Jets bring in TWO beefy d-linemen that need to be marked by multiple o-linemen... this is gonna be a night and day difference.
can you imagine what happens if the eagles choose a future pro bowler? all these espn patriot lovers will have to poke fun at them for years to come for the move doubt it will happen, but of all teams you would think the Pats would know that 6th round picks can surprise...
On NFL Network, Charley Casserly called Bilal Powell the best value of Day 3. Nice praise from a former GM.
Casserly also said that Powell immediately replaces McKnight....which I don't believe is the case yet.
It really is, he was regarded sooo higher. And I may be crazy, but I see a bit of Elvis Dumervil in Greg Jones...
