This thread is for all GMs and any poster to discuss the Mock. *****IMPORTANT....NO discussion of undrafted players. PLEASE KEEP THIS DISCUSSION CIVIL!!!!!! NO Posting till draft starts please...
WW, I think we should suspend the mock draft after the first 30 Picks and during the Super Bowl (not all of SB Sunday, but just those three plus hours during the actual game) This way we will have the accurate draft order for 31 & 32 and also folks can concentrate on the SB without missing picks What do you think about that?
I'm not too concerned about the draft order of the 2 last teams, it's either 31 or 32. I probably will suspend the draft from 6 P.M> to Midnight, have to see how it goes. To tell you the truth, The Super Bowl doesn't mean much to me, unless Gang Green is participating.
Yeah that's better, it doesn't need to be all of SB Sunday, JUST DURING THE ACTUAL GAME, if we can just suspend the clock during the actual game that would be perfect As for 31 & 32, I agree, its no big deal
Sounds Good..I concur! If GMs want to pick during the game, no problem, but the clock will be off 6:00 to Midnight during the SuperBowl.
OK...draft is under way. The Clock doesn't officially start till 9:00A.M. this morning. I'm going to bed, see you guys around after 8:00 a.m.
Reasons behind selecting Aaron Curry at #1...and I know it wasn't the popular choice, but it makes the most since to me. 1. New Lions coach Jim Schwartz is one of the best defensive coaches in the league. 2. Gunter Cunningham, a big name, veteran defensive guru, was brought in as Detroit's defensive coordinator - he says he won't build around a scheme, but around his players. Now he has Ernie Sims, who is a beast, but their run defense was still near the bottom of the league. Thinking about Curry and Sims in the same linebacking corps is scary. Cunningham starts off with two great playmaking linebackers to build his new defense around. 3. I had the option of either going QB, OT, or best defensive player - I chose to go defense: A rookie QB isn't going to help out at all playing behind that swiss cheese offensive line and a solid offensive tackle can be found later in the draft. Remember, Detroit has two first rounders. 4. No QB, no problem? ...well it'll probably be a problem no matter who's back there. Scott Linehan is the Lions' new offensive coordinator and he likes current Lion QB Daunte Culpepper...don't ask me why, but he wants to start him. Linehan and Culpepper had success in Minnesota together, but Randy Moss was a huge part of that. They have Calvin Johnson to work with now. 5. This team has so many holes that they could really draft any position and it would help them next year, I was just looking for the guy that would help them the most, right away. Aaron Curry is an impact player, and he will have an impact in Detroit. St. Louis: Eugene Monroe has the potential to be one of the best left tackles in the NFL. It was the smart choice. Kansas City: I like the O-Sackpo selection. I want to see the Chiefs go after a pass rusher or a corner -- basically just a defensive player. But, if Todd Haley from Arizona becomes head coach in KC, he might want to get a big time receiver* to line up along side Dwayne Bowe.
I have no problem with Curry going #1, he's clearly the best defensive player in this draft, come April............ Curry could be the 1st pick. I've cooled on a QB with the 1st pick for Detriot in Rd 1. There needs are so many a QB isn't going to solve their problems. I strongly would consider a OT with the 1st pick, there are a few very good ones. MR E.....1 small issue, can you edit the undrafted player in your post....Thx.
Just a heads up I'll be around all morning and checking in often to make my pick when Cinci goes OTC Right now there's two ahead of me, Seattle and Cleveland, but I'll know when its my turn
I will be available most of the day............If you have a pick coming up in the next 5 or6 picks.....and may be offline awhile......PM me your draftboard.
I love the first three picks, Curry could give some great leadership and possibly become the Ray lewis that Detroit needs. Monroe is a monster and although I have him ranked 2 for OTs, it is more like 1B. I love the Orakpo selection for the Chiefs, but I do see how Haley coming in may look at offense. He seems like a vet brought in for QB or they will stick with Thigpen, I would find it interesting if Warner came over with him. So in that idea offense would be a better pick. Orakpo is the smarter pick, Him with Hali on the other side would give a nice rush
They had a pass rush so bad last season that while hilarious in the beginning of the season, by the end it wasn't even funny anymore. It is amazing that their secondary held up like they did, and is a testament to how amazing the rookies Flowers and Carr performed. Imagine them with a pass rush. Just do it. It will be frightening. Orakpo will be the beginning of that, filling in the spot that Jared Allen left wide open last season when he left.
I really like Curry but was surprised that Detroit didn't go OL or QB. Depending on how the rest of the draft falls this could be a very clever pick. This should be an interesting draft.
JMo Curry is a lousy pick at number 1. Lions have a chance to get a franchise QB you have to take him. Unless your getting an Impact/game changer LB like Lawrence taylor than you don't take a Lb number 1 overall. (Aundray Bruce) YEs a rookie QB not going to help much next year, but its not about next year for the Lions. Its about building a team in time that can win a championship. Nothing revitalizies a fan base more than drafting a potential franchise Qb. I don't care what relationship Culpepper had with the new coach. This is not the same culpepper we are talking about. (the guy is a very short fix) By drafting a franchise QB and having a Veteran like Culpepper it gives the Lions a chance to build that oline and offense around that young franchise QB, when hes ready to take over. Let Culpepper take the pounding.
AL Davis would never pick a LB that high. Raiders are more in a need for a MLB type than Olbs(Morrison and Howard) . He dosen't build his defense around LBs, but the defensiveline and shutdown Cbs. Raiders aren't going defense in the first but if they did they probably go Dline.
Curry at # 7 would be a value pick. BAP is almost never a bad idea. Don't worry, I will hook the Raiders up.
BaP isn't usually a bad thing. Sometimes it can be. See Lions drafting Calvin Johnson (over kill) When you have more pressing needs at other positions. Like I stated Raiders are more in need a of MLB than an OLB. ( Morrison, Howard, Alston and R Brown) Im not telling you where to go but IF your thinking offense tackle just ask yourself this question, will this guy fit in a Denver zone blocking scheme.(very important)
