Figured I'd make another one of these. FA signings: Jim Leohnard. He's not spectacular, but Leohnard improves our Safety position and can really fly around the field. This will allow Rhodes to play his natural game as well. Chris Canty. I don't think we'll put more $ in to the LB spot, so DE seems like a good way to go. Ryan will need to put pressure on the QB, and adding Canty will certainly help. Byron Leftwich. Pretty simply signing here. Leftwich will come in to compete with Clemens and Ratliff. If they fail, he can be a servicable starter. Draft 1st round: Josh Freeman. I might get crucified for this, but I firmly believe that Freeman will be the Flacco of this years draft. Everyone already knows about his talent and tools, but if he shows improved accuracy and decision making at the combine, he'll go in to the 1st round. Put Freeman in a similar system to Flacco and he will succeed. The Jets are a perfect match. Strong running game, good offensive line, a go-to TE in Keller, and a very solid WR option in Cotchery. Obviously, if Sanchez is here, we'd take him. 2nd round: "Macho" Harris. He should be here for our 2nd round pick. Harris is great in coverage and will really help our secondary. Macho would be a nice compliment to Revis. Alternative pick = Mike Mickens 3rd round: Mohammad Massaqoui. He's not a Maclin or Nicks, but Massaquoi is a solid pick here in the 3rd. He's 6'2, and could be a nice option for whoever our QB is. 4th round: Mitch King. I watched King a lot at Iowa, and I loved what I saw. He is a football player. 5th round: Jasper Brinkley. Mock's have him going all over the place, so I'm not sure if he'd be available. He'd bring a lot of depth to our LB corps. Not too familiar with the 6th/7th round guys.
sign leftwich and draft a qb rd 1?no way if we're going qb in draft then let the other 2 kids fight it out for the season and beef up the defense
So you're really willing to risk that one of Clemens, Ratliff, or Freeman would be ready to start in the NFL and lead a win-now team? I think Clemens can start right now and Freeman if put in a similar system to Baltimroe, but I'm not convinced.
Josh Freeman is el terrible. Size and arm strength aren't everything...I like some of your other selections - Jasper Brinkley the most. I was one of the first guys here to bring up signing Byron Leftwich as well. He needs another chance, on a good team. My evaluation of Freeman from a previous thread:
He had a problem with drops over his career - he really improved as a senior, but only because AJ Green was on the other side. MoMass is not a #1 receiver, and he may not even be a #2 at the next level.
HAHAHAH JOSH FREEMAN with the first rounder? no way does he get picked in the first round let alone by the Jets, i've seen the dude play one day he does look like a first rounder, other days it looks like he shouldnt even be drafted
Why would Jets want Macho Harris- HE is Dwight Lowery 11 . A slow CB lacking speed who has to play in a zone defense to probably be sucessful. You do know Rex Ryan wants to be able to play man to man defense with his CB's. You have a better chance of being drafted by the Jets, than Macho harris.
Don't you get it yet? No one on this board cares what you have to say. Victor Harris lacks elite speed, but he's been successful in both man and zone coverage at VT. Macho has something most corners lack - versatility. He can line up almost anywhere in the defensive backfield and be effective.
Do your homework on Rex Ryan and you would know Macho harris has no chance to be a Jet. Probably not even on their draft board. You have Macho Harris and D Lowery as your number 2 and 3 CB , and you will have the 32 ranked pass defense. You do know you suppose to use the draft to get better, not worse. Victor Harris CB, Virginia Tech Strengths: Has good size. On passes in front of him, shows excellent instincts and quick feet to plant, drive and close in a blink. Is tough, strong and athletic. Delivers violent hits immediately after catches. Shows excellent hands to make tough interceptions. Jolts receivers at the line to slow their release. Comes up quickly in run support and is a willing hitter. Weaknesses: Must improve backpedal technique; often loses a step when flipping hips to turn and run with receivers. Lacks explosive burst to recover after losing a step. Lacks elite speed to stay with receivers downfield. Must improve press technique; whiffs at times. Is an inconsistent tackler; does not always play under control, diving for big hits only to bounce off ballcarriers or miss. Bottom line: Harris' draft value will vary drastically, depending on what type of defensive scheme an NFL team runs. He shows the toughness and instincts to overcome his lack of speed in the right system. Expect him to be rated highly by cover-2 teams and downgraded on the boards of teams that play a lot of man-to-man coverage. Ultimately, Harris may wind up playing safety in the NFL. Macho Harris= second coming of Lowery. Nobody believed me about Lowery and I pretty much nailed it.
