Now that the college football season has begun, which positions should I zero in on for the Jets? Is there an absolute need in the first-round pick?I guess guard?
Offensive line, Nose Tackle, Tight End, and even running back (Jones is 29 already and Leon could never carry the load by himself) would be the highest needs. In the middle to late rounds we could look for depth in the secondary and in the linebacking core, specifically ILB. I wouldn't mind taking a 5th or 6th round QB either to groom into Kellen's backup
I think our linebacking corps is solid - and it's much easier to find talent in free agency to fill needs in the 3/4 defense. Maybe a big play receiver or just another weapon on offense. Offensive Line is the biggest hole right now on this team, but if someone explosive is still around the Jets should take him. We've gotta keep up with the Pats and a big play threat would help us out.
I vote against drafting an OL in the first round - just think about signing Brick, Mangold and said lineman whenever their contract$ are up.
No question OL. Also, DL, particularly NT. I would also think that CB would be a need even though we drafted Revis this year. Two shut down corners with Kerry would be siiiicccckk. Also, a DE that can play in the 3-4 would be really great. Is there enough interest to start threads for positions of needs as the Jets and college seasons progress. So that when the hype starts we can all have a good feel for whose available at what positions?
I'm interested. It's the reason I started this thread, kinda. NFL Draft Countdown has DE/OLD Quentin Groves going at No.11. His performance against Kansas State was dominating. He's second all-time at Auburn in sacks, and he would be an awesome get for 2008.
Yeah I did that last year and there was a pretty good response. the games are much more interesting when you know who to watch for.
I think it's obvious the Jets need some help in the trences NT, R,RT. But I would like to see another 3-4 OLB, whois a dominant pass rusher. I don't know who in the Draft would be this player for us.
me, the jets need me -- a 5'10 outside jewish linebacker from suburbia new york. in other words, the college football season started... but the national football league season hasn't started. lets at least wait till the end of week 1.
Groves is a potential top 10 pick. He dominated Kansas State, like I said before, but the announcers said Wildcats had mostly JUCO's playing on the o-line. Any update on Brian Cushing, because I heard he was injured Sat. night?
There seem to be some potential 3-4 NTs in this draft, unlike this past year. Between Okam (320 lbs), Red Bryant (324), and BJ Raji (340). I hope we can get someone to help clog the middle.
Just a heads up: Miami vs. Oklahoma at noon. This game features DE Calais Cambell and two great safeties in Kenny Phillips (Canes) and Darien Williams (Sooners). Feel free to post potential matchups of interest this Saturday.
BTW, our future NT, Raji was suspended for not being the sharpest tool in the shed. I was also looking at him as a 3rd or 4th rounder that could be a great NT for us. So much for that. Red Bryant is our only option left in this draft, and he doesn't seem very good to me.
