1. Just say you were a Jets Fan your whole life and you played college ball and ended up getting drafted by a whole different organization. Do you silently always watch and root for the Jets??? I always wondered this!!! 2. Say your team was the Cleveland Browns/ La Raider/ La Rams/ Houston Oilers/ etc... then your team ends up moving to a whole different state. Do you follow the team that was once know as your team to a different state. Because the Cleveland Browns are really the Baltimore Ravens and the LA Raiders are in Oakland and the LA Rams are the Saint Louis Rams and the Houston Oilers are the Tennesse Titans. Imagine the Jets in the same situation would you follow the team whereever they go???(what I mean by follow is still be a fan of the team)
I have always considered the time I spend keeping track of my favorite team to be somewhat of a hobby as well as a passion... but if I were to, say, spend every waking hour of labor on the professional game of football, it would probably have some adverse effect on the level of enjoyment I take from it as a fan. I think I would put my feelings as a Jets fan on the back burner for that sole reason.
It would be an awkward situation I think you know you have your favorite team like for instance Brady Quinn.. Now he could really say he is living his dream to the max because thats the team he loved since he was little. buy your right on the back burner thing as well..
1. I would imagine you'd want your team to win no matter what, even if it meant beating your favorite team from when you were growing up. With incentives and whatnot playing a large role in contracts, the better you and your team do the more $$ you potentially make. Aside of playoff implications and actually playing against them, they probably still root for them, but not openly. People can change there minds about favorites though. There's a lot of factors at play, like are division rivalries and whatnot. You could grow up a Jets fan, get drafted by the Phins, and after a while get taken in by there culture and develop a hatred for the Jets. Everyone is different though, so I'd suspect you'd get a lot of different answers if you could actually ask the players. 2. I'm a Jets fan as long as they don't end up in Florida, Texas, or California.
I wish they would interview the players and without them being prosecuted let them say how the truely feel... if possible but i know they would lie if they wanted to save face.
That would be pretty cool. You really only find out after a player goes to his childhood team ala Vinny coming to the Jets, or Brady going to the Browns. As far as the questions: 1. I think whatever team you are on automaticly becomes your favorite team and also your family's favorite team. Players are so competive, that your team is the only one you care about, but I would venture to say there is still a little bit of rooting for your childhood team just not in public and if it has an adverse affect on your team. 2. I would have to say if the Jets were to move I would probaly still remain a Jet fan. Especailly not living in NY anymore. I would definately not become a Giant fan or living in south Florida definately not a Fin fan. I would hope they remain in the same division so I can go to the Jet Dolphin game down here, and I could travel to their new city rather then NY for a home game like I do now and could go to an away game too like I do now. I try to make it to 3 games a year now and could still do that just replacing NY with their new home town. That being said I would never want them leaving NY, its bad enough they play in Jersey and they want to pass that bill that would force them to be called the NJ Jets.
I agree with what most of you have said. If you are a player in professional sports - you are obviously extremely competitive. I would think you would just want the team you are currently playing on to win, no matter what. If your hometown team isn't playing in your division or not playing your team that week - I'm sure they would root for them to win. As far as being a fan goes. It probably depends on how old you were when the team moved or you moved. I was 13 when I moved from Cherry Hill, NJ to Mass. So, even though my family rooted for the Eagles, I was too young to be a diehard fan yet. I quickly converted to cheering for the Pats/Red Sox etc. after a year or two. But if you are an adult, I would think you'd still root for your team. I know now, I will always be a Pats fan, no matter where I go or the team would go.
I guess in a situation like that it would really test to see if your a fan of the team or just the NY Jets name...
1. If I was a Jets fan and got drafted by another team, I would still root for that team but, when my team played them, I would want to win just as much as always. 2. If the Jets moved somewhere outside NY/NJ, I would start rooting for the Giants and rooting against the Jets out of bitterness.
1. You really have to look at it from a player perspective, rather than a fan's perspective. It is completely different when something is your job vs. hobby. These guys are professionals, its a job, and there is no loyalty (except in a few isolated cases). They root for whatever team they're on. 2. I would probably still root for the jets just because I am familiar with and like the personnel. If they became a completely different team, I'd probably become a titans fan.
Being that I have moved out of NY and have not changed my allegiances to any team (except for Hockey) I would say at this point I would stay loyal to the green and white.
I would root for them no matter where they went. Now people who live in NJ/NY may not feel the same. I live in VA and not one of the home teams here are my favroite. I'm a Jets,Lakers,Oilers and Angles fan when I did watch baseball.
I am from Alabama and became a Jet fan when they signed Joe Willie Namath... and the Jets stuck, even after Joe went to the Rams for his final year, even after Joe was gone. I will always be a Jet fan no matter where they move or how long they suffer. NJ Jets, yeah... LA Jets, yeah... Miami Jets, N.E. Jets, hmmm?
I'd probably be crushed if the Jets moved anywhere, that's all I know. They're the New York Jets, I'm a Jet fan, that's it. I suppose I'd either stick with them or become a fan of whatever expansion team took their place. If it was another team that moved here though I could never follow them.
I think you can gain some insight by looking at how you feel about your all time fav Jet player after he is traded.
If the Jets moved I would rout for them but I would most likely become a huge Giants fan. I would never again buy anything Jets. Couldn't see putting one cent in the pocket of the man who took my team away.
