It's apparent that the 1st quarter is just as important as the rest of the game. Why is it that the Jets have come out rather sluggish at the beginning of almost every game? I know our D definately has it's downs, and out Offense apparently can't score a TD in the 1st quarter in 4 games, but come on. Blame HAS to be placed on the first quarter play in this INDY game as much as it is placed on the questionable playcalling, and terrible run D. I mean, watching the first 15 minutes of the game as opposed to the rest of it is like comparing apples to oranges... a VERY rotten apple.
It almost seems like the Jets use the first quarter to set up the entire rest of the game. They run the ball into the ground, with no where to go, but that really opens up the play action pass over the course of the game, and get the ball rolling from there. We really didn't have great pass protection early in the game either, as evidenced by the Freeney forced fumble.
Good Post. It really is puzzling. Like Julia Roberts marriage to Lyle Lovett. It's been like that every week like the guy with the gameplan oversleeps and comes running in the door with it near the end of the first quarter. Very Three's Company. I'm a big fan of the new strong finishing Jets not so much of the "oh the game started already?" Jets.

Good point, but I just don't understand why they don't spread the ball around from the VERY beginning. After the 1st Quarter, Pennington and Co seem unstoppable. Once he gets into rythm, it's a lot easier for Houston or Barlow to get something going on the ground.
i imagine this is just a statistical anamoly that if it happened during a four game stretch in the middle of the season wouldnt get noticed i dont expect it to continue
This is still a huge problem. Especially when we're down 14-0 with about 5:00 left in the 1st quarter. Chad had already thrown a pick, and our D had failed multiple times already. WHY CAN'T THEY SHOW UP AT THE BEGINNING?
Part of that has to boil down to coaching...You simply have to have your team ready each week, and every week the Jets have looked flat...Though they have made some very good comebacks and have been exciting games outside of today...Every game they look flat, and Mangini has to be held accountable at some point for that.
HELL NO. I'm happy with Mangini... But the fact is, he does have to have some sort of blame for not getting his players ready for the start of a game...That's it. I support him, and hope he wins here, but he has to be held accountable...
 A Lyle Lovett reference AND a Three's Company reference. I'll be paying more attention to your posts.
