You guys got this wrong. Imagine the haul the Jets could get for the first pick. At least 15 teams bidding against each other. Biggest in history for draft picks and players. Take 2 years off the rebuild.
Take the generational QB. It’s the most important position. We have another first round pick in 2021 and our high second and extra-third could get us back in there again if we need to. Then we have 2 picks in Round One the following year. If we don’t get pick 1 then I’m happy taking the RGIII deal for Fields.
Yeah I was going to say. What 15 teams would trade 4-5 picks? Yup. Rarely does it work out if you pass on them. I'm sure the Browns wish they had Carson Wentz instead of Baker right now..
Passing on Lawrence would make me finally quit being a Jets fan. QB is the most important and most expensive position by far. Having a franchise QB on a rookie contract is the best way to turn your team around quickly. The other positions just aren't nearly as impactful and there's no guarantee we'd even draft successful guys at whatever other positions we'd take if we traded out of #1.
Should we be banned immediately after taking a DT 1st overall (to replace Mclendon's actual production with some hidden production) or should there be a grace period?
Dallas doesn’t. Dak is a stud. Jacksonville, Redskins, Bears, Colts, Tampa, and Saints. Half of those teams are already good so there’s no chance the Jets would trade the #1 pick for late 1st round picks imo.
A third more of a long shot scenario is sign Prescott, trade Sam for a mid to late 1st, trade the Lawrence pick for a RGIII type trade, Use the picks to draft Sewell and add two 1st round weapons for Prescott. While we are going there sign Thune as a starting guard. An OL of Sewell, Bechton, Thune and Clarke with Mims, Crowder and 2 more 1st round weapons with Prescott throwing the ball would suddenly make the offense look promising. Add in that we would still have 5 1st round picks in 2022 and 2023. That might be my dream rebuild.
Is this really gonna be the discussion for the next 6 months?? No GM in their right mind would ever trade out of the chance to draft Trevor Lawrence, he is a franchise altering talent.
You got it all wrong. The Jets need to add as many "sure things" as possible. Imagine how many misses the Jets could have with that haul if their recent draft history is any indication. What a shit show that would be. Stop with the nonsense. Add premium talent at the most important position and build around him. Trevor Lawrence fits the bill.
Does anyone here think Sam Darnold with a good OL and Jamarr Chase + Rondale Moore+Juju would take us to the superbowl? I don't. If you agree, then you know the answer is draft QB.
Minnesota, SF should both be interested--las vegas, giants, Elway of course would give anything. It's a valid argument you make imo. In addition a trade can include players plus picks to reduce uncertainty of draft.
Think on what teams can offer before you make it sound like a Hershal Walker deal. There are only 2 team with multiple 1st round picks - Jacksonville and Miami. You know the Jets won't trade with Miami. There has to be more from Jacksonville besides their 2 #1's. Not for Trevor.
If the Jets don't get the #1, then what? I really believe they can be successful with Sam if he is surrounded by some studs and a GOOD HC!!
If we need to add as many sure things as possible then why does Joe Douglas keep trading sure things away and letting them walk in Free Agency. We have been rebuilding since John Idzik and it hasnt stopped since.Every year for the last 5 years has been a "rebuild" year.
