The bomb to Maynard, to set up the winning TD and the winning TD pass were classic Joe Willie, right on the button!
Great (muddy!) game! Jets' D deserves a lot of credit...just like the SB a week later. Four Oakland trips inside the Jets' 6 yard line produced zero TDs. JETS!!!
Unfortunately the actual NBC broadcast was not saved.....I’m hoping some old timer somewhere out there has it on a VHS tape up in an old box waiting to be brought back into the world one of these days.......slim chance.
At the time this game was played home VCRs was just a dream. My thinking is the NFL squashed replaying that game as it was a all AFL affair
Verlon Biggs had a tremendous game. He sacked Lamonica on a 4th and 10 inside the 30 when they decided to go for it rather than kick the field goal. Biggs and Philbin both had great years in 68. Oakland was a deep strike team but when the field shortened the Jets D didn't have to cover as much field and they were able to hold their ground. Classic bend don't break on a shrinking field. Oakland going for it on 4th down may have had something to do with Shea. It was a terrible place to kick field goals.
Banaszak scored 1 TD inside the 20 on a 5 yard run. Biletnikoff caught a 29 yard TD. He had a great game 7 for 190. The Jets D was great inside the 20 all game.
I always love these kind of threads of yours @matt robinson 17, but I wish I could start becoming nostalgic about the present already. "How 'bout them Jets last year?" Now wouldn't that be a treat. Usually when I think of "last year" I get chest pains.
