there are 3 ways to go about this. a) trade some prospects for oswalt or lilly b) try to trade away some of our pieces and concieve the season. c) try too make a trade for lesser talent myers, westbrook or millwood.maybe even jose lopez to play 2nd?? i say b or c then fire omar AND jerry. then hire bobby V and see what he can get out of this bunch of vets and youngsters like pagan thole davis and mejiia. 2011 free agents cliff lee jeremy bonderman adam dunn carl crawford victor martinez jayson werth 2012 we have a couple of players coming off the books beltran krod perez maine francour castillo cora reyes 2012 free agents broxton papelbon sizemore who has a $8.5 club option kazmir $12.5 club option
I say B. Theyre not going to do A, and doing C won't do anything for them. If Pelfrey is really this bad, it wont matter.
Minaya and Manuel should be sent packing. Go with B and start again, we have some good young talent but a fucking retard of a GM and Manager.
The smart move would be to trade anyone and everyone for prospects and start the inevitable rebuilding process. Which means of course that we will trade the few prospects we actually do have for a middle of the road past his prime pitcher that will be a FA after this season. Sell the team Freddy, sell the team.
i just laughed , then thought a second, then cursed out loud...... who do we have that has value? bay? santana? beltran? krod? barajas?
I think Bay has value (just not with this team or at what he's being paid) but they would never trade him in year 1. You put Bay in Coors or another hitters park and he'd have 25 HRs and 55 RBIS instead of the garbage he is giving us. Why this team refused to even consider Holliday a hitter as opposed to a guy who feasted at Fenway shows the lack of actually putting a winner on the field. I say we sit put with what we have. This team is not a championship caliber team and trading away prospects for a rental isn't going to improve that. We need a 2nd baseman as what we wheel out there on a nightly basis isn't going to make the cut. We also need another arm and a bench. As usual we were teased but when push came to shove the Mets were what we all assumed they were. As far as next year, I'd look at bringing in Dunn and throwing him in RF. His avg is always low but you know your getting 35-45 HRs from him. Reyes Beltran Wright Dunn Davis Bay Thole/Barajas 2B P Not a bad lineup Then maybe make a trade for somebody like Oswalt but I don't know what it'd take to get him. Lilly wouldn't be a bad 2nd option. As far as 2nd base I have no idea what the hell we do because Castillo and Cora suck ass.
i guess you didnt hear, the phillies are close to bring oswalt in.and trading werth to tampa bay next year is castillo last and cora's opton kicks in if he plays 80 games.so we will have both next year. terrible terrible decisions by omar and if we sign dunn what about pagan or fmart?
if we could ship bay to the rockies i would do it in a heartbeat. and i would love to get seth smith in return santana to the giants for maybe like matt cain
If I were the Mets I'd pretty much stand pat. There's nobody on the market who would put them over the top, but I don't think it makes sense to blow the whole team up. It's not like the NBA or NHL where it makes sense to sell everybody and tank for a draft pick. If they're going to start from scratch they should wait until the offseason. Beltran and Reyes' value will be much higher then. I do agree that it's time for Manuel to go though, and Minaya's firing is long overdue.
I think The Guy Who Can Pitch With Bugs on Him could be acquired from Cleveland. Lilly is on the downside of his career, Oswalt probably doesn't want to come to NY and if he did would probably be a Mets version of Eddie Whitson, Westbrook is a so-so pitcher, etc. I think Fausto Carmona is the only guy rumored to be on the trade market who the Mets could get and then have for a number of years. It obviously would come down to what Cleveland wants in return. If the Mets are going into this with the attitude that the move is more about 2011 and beyond than trying to nab the wild card spot, then maybe they could make a good trade for a change. If a good deal is not available to them, then fuck it. Forget about it and fix the holes in the offseason.
The Mets are trying to trade Jeff Francoeur, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post. The right fielder is playing less now that Carlos Beltran is healthy, and a friend told Puma that Francoeur would welcome a trade if he were given the chance to play every day. Francoeur has hit .277/.315/.437 with 18 homers since the Mets acquired him for Ryan Church about a year ago. Much of Francoeur's production came in 2009, however; this year his OPS sits at .673. Any team looking to add Francoeur will have to consider his $5MM salary (he'll earn about $2MM between now and the end of the season). If Francoeur finishes the season well, his team can retain him for 2011 through arbitration, but he is a non-tender candidate at this point.
They need to do A and fire the two spics and trade for Lily or Myers. At least to restore whatever hope is left for the season.
Haha I'm sure teams are beating down the door for Frenchy!!!! They are lining up around the corner for a guy who can't hit his weight. Who are the two spics?
The Mets completed their deal with free agent reliever Chad Cordero, who will likely pitch in Triple A Buffalo. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports first reported the agreement and Andy Martino of the New York Daily News noted that the deal had become official (via Twitter). Cordero had labrum surgery two years ago and battled his way back to the Majors with the Mariners in June. Optioned back to Triple A on July 15th, Cordero elected free agency. It appears that Cordero will be arbitration-eligible after the season, as he'll still be short of six years service time. Rosenthal points out that Mets GM Omar Minaya originally drafted Cordero 20th overall as Expos GM in 2003. Cordero went on to save 128 games for the Expos/Nationals before his injury. Cordero, 28, struggled in his short big league stint but posted a 4.12 ERA, 10.1 K/9, and 1.8 BB/9 in 19.6 Triple A innings this year. The Mets scouted Kevin Gregg and Scott Downs over the weekend, but Cordero is a more affordable option. Finally a good move by the Mets.
