*trade #4 pick to Detroit for their 1st and 2nd rounder *trade Abe to Denver for the #22 *recieve comp picks in 3,4,5, and 7 *4th round Herm comp *7th round McGraw comp 1 TE Vernon Davis a freak. The Reggie Bush of tight ends. 6'4, 265, runs a 4.3, 42'' vertical. Would be a good fit in an offense that probably look alot to their tight end to make plays. He can run, he can catch, he can block. He can do it all, and will play a prominent role as Pennington's security blanket 1 DE/OLB Manny Lawson has to tools to be something special. Can play rush backer in a 3-4 or DE in a 4-3 2 OT Marcus McNeill the mauler we desire at RT. Very possible he falls to 2nd round; also possible he goes late first. 2 RB Joseph Addai a very well rounded back who ran a 4.3 at the combine. As an LSU fan Ive been high on him for a while, and he could prove to eventually be a steal. Worst case scenario he becomes a fantastic change of pace back, and we draft a guy like Lynch in the first round next year 3 DE Rodrique Wright could probably play DE in a 3-4 if DRob dosent work out there 3 CB/PR Devin Hester supposedly scouts projected him as a WR, but with no prolonged exposure to any set position, could be groomed into a fantastic corner. also a dangerous returner 4 QB Charlie Whitehurst with Pennington likely to restructure, I dont see us addressing QB day 1. I see us going QB early day 2, and/or signing a vet 4 DT Montavious Stanley could probably play NT in a 3-4 is DRob dosent work out there 4 OT Troy Reddick stock has dropped with his 5.6 forty (not that it was incredibly high to begin with), but would provide quality depth; played with McNeill at Auburn 5 WR Skyler Green vying for the #4 role 5 C/OG Mike Degory can play center of guard, so in that respect, a very versatile player that could fill either hole 6 FB Matt Bernstein would be a great power running, blocking type FB 7 ILB Anthony Schlegal depth at LB is needed in the 3-4 7 OLB Pierre Woods see above Our starting roster... QB Pennington RB Addai FB Bernstein WR Coles WR McCareins TE Davis LT Jones LG Kendall C Mawae RG Moore RT McNeill DE Wright? Robertson? NT Robertson? Stanley? DE Ellis OLB Barton ILB Vilma ILB Hobson OLB Lawson CB Miller CB Barrett FS Coleman SS Rhodes K Nugent P Graham
What about B.J. Askew, i think we should give our third round pick a shot. I dont like Devin Hester in the third round 2 much. I'm a Miami Hurricane fan and i just cant really see him being anything more than a special teamer. And with so many team needs I dont feel it would be wise to draft the same postion in the first three rounds ( lawson, wright).
That'd be one hell of a draft for the Jets. Holy crap...the Jets would arguable have one of the best draft classes of this year.
Wright would be IMO a 3-4 defensive end, that could play defensive tackle in a 4-3 Lawson would be IMO a 3-4 outside linebacker, that could play defensive end in a 4-3
Is Rod Wright the dude from Texas? If so isn't he a borderline first round prospect? Love the Vernon Davis pick, don't think McNeil will be there in the second and don't think Kendall and Mawae will be back. We would be lucky if one returns.
Rod Wright...yup, the one from Texas. FORMER first round prospect. In fact, last year, I remember posting a thread about how I wanted Haloti Ngata, who I thought would be the #1 DT in this years draft. Boy did I get hell left and right; people thought I was a lunatic and that it was a nobrainer that Weight would go first. Anyways, his stock has slipped our of the first round, and very possibily out of the 2nd. In fact it might not even be improbable for him to be taken in the early 4th. But lets say Im wrong, in that case I think Orien Harris would be a healthy alternative. As for McNeill, its debatable. Well see where he goes, but most people seem to think he holds an late 1st/early 2nd grade. But if he dosent make it then there will be plenty of other RTs available that we could pick. But IMO he will be there. As for Mawae and Kendall, dunno, remains to be seen. Nothings happened yet, so until theyre FAs, I have no reason to believe the wont be Jets. IMO they can still perform and I dont think thats its impossible to fit em under the cap. But well see soon enough, wont we
Certainly a healthy number of extra picks in there. It's a good draft for the Jets in terms of the players they get, but I think you got a little overboard with players slipping. Like if we wanted Manny Lawson, we'd probably have to take him at 9. Cleveland and Miami are both probably salivating over the prospect of bringing in a rush LB with a 4.41. Same likely goes for Whitehurts, Hester, and maybe even Addai after what he did at the combine (I have him late first). Why 2 OTs instead of picking up a guard? Especially considering both OTs are right tackles.
Well I definitely dont think Lawson's worth picking in the top 10. If what you say is true and he is indeed gone, than Id probably just look towards Bobby Carpenter. Whitehurst IMO is an early 4th round prospect, Hester a late day 1, and Addai a mid round 2 prospect. Like I said, big LSU fan here, but I think a first rounder is a bit steep, given his production (or lack of, rather) college production As for OT, I just think that at that point, Troy Reddick offers better value than any other guard on the board. But for good measure I have Degory in the next round
We're not filling any holes for the future at guard, and I highly doubt we get four comp picks. We're not the Patriots. All in all it'd be a pretty good situation, even if I'm not a fan of Vernon Davis since that'd STILL leave us without a semi-decent blocking tightend on the roster.
Well then our opinions differ. IMO Vernon Davis is a more than adequate blocker...hes not dominating, but hell get the job done. There was a 300 pound TE at the combine that ran a 4.8. I was thinking about including him, but I couldnt find his info. As for the comp picks, those are the picks I projected a while ago, and ever since them, Ive stuck to em. Looking back theyre probably off, and well get more like a 4,5, and a 7. But both of em are just opinions...we should know soon enough As for guard, I know I left em out, but didnt find anyone of value in the respective rounds that I would decide to address em. Plus, until Kendall and Mawae are cut (if they are), they are still Jets, and have the start locked up. I suppose we could draft a guard in the later rounds, but hey, dont worry, this mock is just one of many to come
Nvm, Mawae was just released. Ill be making some revisions and posting a new mock soon, perhaps after FA
