Rookies, Milliner, Richardson, Smith, Winters and Bohanon. 2nd year, Coples, Hill, Davis, Allen and Harrison. Not bad!
2011 is pretty good too because you add Wilkerson, Ellis, Kerley, and Powell into the mix. Ellis isn't starting but he's still an important player on the team. Plus Darrin Walls, even though he was taken by the Falcons first.
Youth movement baby. Testament to the coaching staff that we've been able to be successful this year with all those young players.
Just think where we will be after next year's deep draft and all our picks. If Idzik & co hit on 50% of their picks, we will be real competitors.
How do the Jets rank in age? Compare last year too. We had to have gotten a lot younger, but how does that compare to all the other teams? In the QB position alone, the Pats have 15 yrs on us.
Young rebuilding team playing with some hope. Couldn't have asked for more off of last year's disaster.
From this draft, we have 5 starters Richardson Milliner Geno Winters TBo Wow... not bad, not bad at all...
I think the spirit in the team is reflected by the youth ...little to no whining in the media and also a team that has the fanbase on board....all we want to see this year is progression and growth....I think that is happening before our eyes!
If you told us that we would be 4-3 and split with the Pats at this point in the season, and with this roster, I think most Jet fans would be pleased considering the less than lofty expectations everyone had for us. Youth movement, plus the '14 draft, plus adding a Hakeem Nicks or someone of that ilk to our team in FA and we are looking dangerous entering next season. Kudos to the coaching staff and Idzik for blazing this path.
You gotta give credit where credit is due. Finding double A (Antonio Allen) in the 7th rounds pretty damn good.
We have 12, yes 12! picks in April at the moment. I have a funny feeling that we will trade Coples for picks and draft a OLB very early on. TBH he looks like the odd man out to me in that front 7.
I think Coples is going to be a Jet for a while yet. Maybe trade him in 2015 when his next contract comes due assuming that MoWilk and Richardson are still going strong. Would be very hard to sign 3 good DT's at market. He is wonderful depth for the Jets right now because if either MoWilk or Richardson gets hurt he's playing DT in a heartbeat.
12 picks next May (including probably the first or second pick in the third round from the Schianos) 40-50 million available in 2014 cap space and bunches of holes already filled by the magnificent 2013 draft god bless you John Idzik
Just curious how you feel if Idzik re-structures Santonio and keeps him on the outside. With Hill getting nothing but better and Kerely already really good, plus this Nelson kid do we really need to go WR in the first few picks? I'd say "yes" with one of our 3rds on the best WR available to learn and groom as Santonio's future replacement, or to fill in if Santonio or Hill get hurt. Even with Barton coming back next year and Coples possibly playing better, I'd love to see Idzik drop his 1st overall pick on the best OLB pass rusher still on the board (will one even be there at the 32nd pick?), and his 2nd pick on the best Free Safety, and his 2nd 3rd round pick on the best TE or DB he can get.
Very true, but we also have Ellis. Spolit. I think Coples' trade value would be higher this year than next which is why I think he might be trade bait. Maybe something happens similar to the Ivory trade, draft day decision if Idzeks 'man' isn't there. So nice to be in this position going into next seasons draft.
next offseason will be the one that shows us what idzick is. the temptation could be there to assume we are 1-2 players away if the current players continue to improve. i hope he stays with the steady approach of midlevel high reward f.a.'s and b.p.a. in the draft. if he stays the course this team can be built to be competitve for a good run while locking up home grown stars like mo and soon to be richardson for their careers while preparing for the replacements of brick and mangold a year early rather than a year late. i don't want another g.m. that goes all in and have things crumble after a 2 year run.
This team very much reminds me of the 1979 team. A ton of young talent at nearly every position. (Todd, Dierking, Walker, Lam Jones, bookend tackles, Lyons, Gastineau, Bobby Jackson, Donald Dykes, Ken Schroy, Shafer Suggs Buttle, Blinka) Eventually developed into a championship cailber team.
