The only 10-6 teams to ever miss the playoffs under the current format are: the 2007 Browns, the 2005 Chiefs, the 2003 Dolphins and the 1991 Eagles and 1991 49'ers. I think teams with 10 wins make the playoffs over 97% of the time. I guess this year COULD be one of those years. Ravens have Pit, @Dal, Jax Colts have Det, Jax, Ten If Jets get to 10. Pats win out. Pats win AFC. Do Jets win tie breaker with Ravens? (I assume Colts will get to 11 or 12).
i believe the Ravens would get the tie breaker over the Jets due to their better AFC record. Correct me if i am wrong
They would. And honestly, the way I am looking at this season is . . . With all of the improvements we made in the offseason and with all of the injuries the Pats have had to deal with, I just feel like it's division title or bust. We are the best team in this division this year. We need to prove it.
every year we here talk of needing 11 wins etc.....to make playoffs and it always seems fo the most part teams that are not the true Biggies- Tenn, Giants, etc... play there way back to 9 - 10 wins and teams get in with less wins then was foreseen. I think Balitmore and Jets Tie Breaker could depend on which games are won and lossed by each team- if we beat buffalo, lose to seattle and beat Miami and Baltimore losed there two AFC games the tiebreaker might swing our way.
The only way they make the playoffs at 10-6 is if they win the division. That means they would need to beat Buffalo & Miami and need NE to lose 1 game. Our conf. record is not good enough to get in anyother way.
I'm with you.. I've posted it a few times this week since the last loss. This team has the talent to WIN OUT and be DANGEROUS in the playoffs. We've seen some very poor defensive coaching and execution as well. The offense hasn't been the best either. But all it will take for this team to be the same one that beat the Titans is if just a few adjustments are made. For example, TJ needs to get more than 10 carries and the defense needs to blitz more often in order to force the QB to make poor throws. A little momentum and passion from the team itself might be the biggest momentum swinger. This is the very same team was considered one of the NFL's best just a couple weeks ago (Well that's not true. We didn't have David Harris then :grin. This team has the ability to be dangerous and to be dangerous NOW. I believe it can happen and it's not farfetched in the LEAST. 11-5 is MORE THAN POSSIBLE.
Given the way we played the Oakland game and the last 2 games, if we finish 10-6, we do not deserve to be in the playoffs. I always hate making the playoffs via help from another team. It really means you got in the playoffs by the skin of your teeth; nothing to brag about.
Denver gets in a 9-7. San Diego, if the cards fall right can actually get in the playoffs at 8-8. This means that there will likely be at least 2 teams with double digit wins that don't make the playoffs. Baltimore's got the toughest road of all the contenders but they are also playing the toughest right now. Baltimore and Indy can both lose a game and get in. If the Patsies win out and we stumble, we're gone, they're in. If our stumble is against the Phins and they've run the table, then they're in and the Pats are out. Bottom line, the schedule favors NE and MIA. It should have favored the Jets if they weren't so freakin' schizophrenic. Unless something really crazy happens with BAL and IND, like they both lose out rest of their games, then the Jets have to run the table or this season is shot.
The only way that a 10-6 record and a wild card berth would be good is if we went to the Super Bowl that way.
The Jets need to win out (win the division) to make the playoffs. Do the math. Past scenarios have zero to do with this current situation.
10-6? I hope we miss the play offs if we're 10-6. We don't deserve the play offs at 10-6. We were 8-3 and we controlled our own destiny. We pissed it away. Fuck the wild card. We get in as a wild card and we're one and done anyway. What a fucking waste of a season.
The only way in via the Wild Card route is for Baltimore to lose out, or lose their last 2 games against AFC opponents. Tough games vs Pittsburgh and Dallas, and you never know against Jacksonville. Of course New England would have to lose to Buffalo(giving them their thrid division loss). And Jets could actually lose to Miami, of course we absolutely have to beat Buffalo and Seattle. I like the simple way better, Win all 3 and it doesn't matter what anyone else does.
Never mind that scenario. I forgot if we lose to Miami then even though we would have identical conference records we would lose to Baltimore on the common opponents 4-1 to 4-2. The Jets sure mucked things up with those last two awful performances. One more win there and this wouldn't even be a discussion.
