Is that a safety that happens during an extra point?

anytime you retreat with the ball from outside the end zone into the end zone and are tackled or go out of bounds, the defending team is awarded a safety. on a regular play it is a regular two point safety. one an extra point attempt, which is only worth one point, it is a one point safety.

pretty simple and I was surprised they made such a big deal about it during the game. I was shocked when it wasn't called immediately.

Here's the NCAA rule: "On a try attempt ... a Team A(Oregon) fumble that is recovered in the Team B(KState) end zone by Team B(KState). RULING: Safety, award Team A(Oregon) one point."

It can only happen in college and not the NFL.
The reason being in college the defense can return an interception, fumble or in yesterday's case a blocked kick the other direction for 2 points. Because the play is not dead immediately like in the NFL if the recovering team retreats into their own end zone the result of the play is a safety and per NCAA rules since 1988 - 1 point.

That doesn't seem to be the complete rule at all. the fumble has to be recovered outside of the end zone, and then the recovering team (Kansas St) has to take the ball into the end zone. only then would it be a safety. if the ball is fumbled outside of the end zone and the ball rolls into the end zone, and Kansas St. then recovers it in the end zone, getting tackled in the end zone would not result in a safety.

exactly, the reason it was a safety was because the player retreated into the endzone

same as any other play. If you recover in your own endzone, it's a touchback, unless you gained possession of the ball in the field of play and then went back into the end zone.

I get that he retreated into the end zone, and why its a safety and the rule states its worth 1 point. I also give respect to the refs for being aware of the rules and awarding it accordingly.

What I don't like is the rule in the first place. Why is it not worth 2 points?? If Kansas St. returned it back to their end zone they would've gotten 2 points- but they were tackled for a safety, why not give 2 points to Oregon then.

Would it have been worth only 1 point if Oregon had decided to go for 2, been intercepted at the 1 yard line, but tackled the Kansas St. player in the end zone after he retreated back??
