Erik Ainge-QB- Jets Oct. 28 - 6:16 pm et Jets placed rookie fifth-round QB Erik Ainge on injured reserve, ending his season. The Jets official website says only that Ainge has a right foot injury. Danny's nephew was grossly outplayed by Brett Ratliff in preseason action and has a long way to go to make an impact at the NFL level. no he cant practice. another thing that came out about the pats after spygate, apparently they had ir players practicing. they are allowed to be part of the team in every aspect besides going onto the practice field i think.
Ainge had hand surgery during the off-season. It would have been easy to IR him at any time. Ainge was never going to be on the field this season anyway. He only needed to learn the offense, watch a bunch of film and lift weights this year to get ready for next season. What did we need to carry 4 QB's on the active roster for ?? That wasted a roster spot.
Letting him see how this league really is and practice with the team for half a season was probably worth carrying him.
Let's all remember that we had an aging QB coming into the season. One who was retired until 5 weeks before the first game. Ainge was insurance in case Favre wasn't really ready to play football. That's why he wasn't on IR to start the year.
Ainge was never going to see the field this season under any circumstances. His perfomance in practice and preseason was not at all impressive. Clemens and/or Ratliff were the guys who'd be under center if the Favre experiment didn't work out.
Under almost any circumstances. Let's say Favre decided he really didn't want to play anymore after week 3. Then you have Ratliff, Clemens, Ainge. You have to have the third string to account for injuries. We Jets fans know that all too well.
