Okay, I'm a jets fan .. AKA not a expert. I only watch the games once, and I dont watch every player ever play but just some thoughts on the jets so far, I no the jets wanted to surprise people with the Brad Smith reverse pass, but we shouldve tried this play sooner, or something. It would also open up his running on reverses. Stuckey - should be getting more looks, nice slot man. Clowney - we kept him on the team even tho he was hurt, is he going to play ever? Coles and Cotch - Lookin Great Baker - U got the money. Can u prove that you deserve it? I havent been watchin the blocking side tho. Hows he doin? Keller - should be getting more looks. Washington - Should be getting more carrys Jones - Good game vs Oakland .. can you keep up? I always never thought he was all that good, Prove me wrong! Please! O-Line - Doing alright, Faneca isnt worth how much we are paying for but a lot better than what we had. Hopefully Woody isnt badly hurt. Favre - Man he looks great and awfully shitty, but im still we have him instead of pennington. His trying drive vs Oakland was fun to watch , and his winning drive against KC was great to watch. Pennington never did that, but It was against KC and Oakland(which we lost still) Defense Did Jenkins play a lot in last game? I only watched it once but I only remember seeing him on the last play. But ya hes a beast. Rhodes is suppose to be a top safety in this league and besides him being untouched to get a tackle/sack he hasnt done much. But like people have said on this board, teams are not throwing his way. Cmon Rhodes make a play! Calvin Pace = great tackler, Hows his coverage? Drew Coleman - Get play on 4th down last week to knock the ball away, but that was first all season, I see this guy get burned every down. Eric smith sometimes too. Harris - Feel BETTER we need him,he don't let anyone get past him, But hows his coverage? Revis - Let up some big catchs last week, hopefully won't happen too much Lowery - a decent looking rookie. Ellis and Coleman - doing fine Anyone else thoughts on the players???
How are Smith, Stuckey, Clowney, Keller, and Washington all going to get the ball more when TJ often doesn't get the ball and the WR's are looking good? It's a good problem to have, but we still haven't figured out how to best use our guys.
I like your analysis. I don't get the chance to watch that many jet games since I don't live on the East Coast. However, from what I've seen I wonder why Eric Smith get so much PT. Penninbton/Fasano totally abused him in game 1, and I haven't seen him do much of anything except get suspended for the hit on Boldin. It almost seems like Mangini keeps playing Smith because his other 3rd rounder in 06 (Schlegel) was cut last year--It almost seems like Mangini is trying to prove that THIS first day pick (Smith) was not an error like Schlegel was. Am I wrong?
Hello, I thought this would be a good place to make my first Gang Green post. I've been reading all of your posts and threads for a few months now and decided to get in on the action. I've been a jets fan since 2002, and have been faithful 100% of the way. Getting to my post, I loved how you brought up the pass by brad smith. One criticism that i've had of the CS's use of him was they always seemed to threaten to pass with him, but always ended up running. This was the first play in which i recall him actually throwing the ball on a reverse. I was surprised it didin't work, but then again, he only had one receiving option.
Good point. He threw a friggin dart too. But, the Jets relied on trick plays Mangini's first year as coach because they lacked all around talent. Now they have the talent but they can't execute the play calls, the last thing they need is to get more complicated.
I meant I'm glad we have him instead of pennington** Because even tho favre does throw picks .. he has the the throwing power to provide a winning drive
I think Coles and Cotch are looking good .. IF**** Favre, Coles and Cotch were all on the same page, they would be great! But they arnt. Also, TJ shouldnt get the ball that often and thats why the other WRs and RBs shud get the ball more. Maybe I'm not on the same page as you, but its just some thoughts
Yeah it was a nice throw, but a little inaccurate. The defenders played it really well though since usually on trick plays like that there is someone wide open.
I think they should give the ball to TJ more. He's been getting pretty good yardage, but they need to add more play action to help the receivers get separation and force a big pass play. I wouldn't mind giving Washington more snaps too, they just need to establish the running game early I think especially since it has been working for us. More running and play action will lead to less Favre mistakes hopefully. And we seriously need to run on 3rd and 1.
this is a huge problem mack, they really dont seem to have an idea what they want to do. i mean its only week 9 but nobody needs to be the star every week, the last 2 weeks we needed to run the ball more and give washington the ball more. the kid had 3 for 67 last week. the running game was going to be the key to the team this year pre favre but now it seems since he is here that is out the window as we run far less than i feel we should. we have 2 very good backs who do different things very well. we have a GREAT FB and a much improved OL. granted i do not think we can nor should we run the ball 30 times against the titans or steelers but that is where coming up with a good gameplan comes in, those 2 teams stop the run very well so dont run it into the line 40 times. oakland and kc cant help but look like a sieve on defense against the run yet we only run the ball 24 times 1 of those being a sack of favre, this is a game in which we should have had over 200 yards rushing. history has shown that jones improves with more carries getting 14 carries just doesnt do it with him. i would have liked to see a little bit more of a 50-50 on the run pass ratio, we ran 24 and passed 41, 1 of those runs started as a pass i assume as it was favre for a loss of 1 so in reality it was 23-42 WAY too much of a difference in the wrong direction. this has been pretty typical through the year 241 passes 175 rushes including those by the qb. that is not nearly close enough to even as it should be with this team that was supposed to rely on the run this year. take tennessee they ran the ball 237 pass 192 carolina at 6-2 run 247 pass 231 new england at 5-2 pass 214 rush 215 buff at 5-2 pass 209 run 192 pitt pass 195 run 192 giants pass 224 rush 216 washington pass 232 rush 267 those are all the teams with less than 3 losses this year. we should have similar run to pass ratios as them as we have not been far behind and forced to throw this year, we have instead chosen to throw and not to run.
