Chargers announced that Ted Cottrell has been relieved of his duties as defensive coordinator and will be replaced by linebackers coach Ron Rivera.

Rivera, who was previously defensive coordinator for the Bears, will take over play-calling for a unit that has allowed 25 points per game after giving up just 18 per game last season. Oct. 28 - 3:56 pm et

Maybe Buffalo can get him back in time for this week's game. Then we can just run up the middle all day.

Wouldn't that require some "strategic thought" from our coaching staff?

"We'll see some things we like and try to focus on those things. Again it's all gameplan specific."

I can't believe Mangini can say that with a straight face...the guy should sell cars for a living...seriously.

I think when he was hear, we had a pretty good defense. We also had a good number of takeaways. Could be a good idea, maybe to work with sutton as a special assistant.

this begs the question...why replace a turd with a turd?

I'm not a big fan of Ted Cottrell....he ruined Minny's d...and now he's taken a talented Chargers defense through the mud as well.

NO. Herm forced him to run the 4-3 Cover 2 scheme when Cottrell is a 3-4 catalyst. We did not have a good defense..... And it could also be a bad idea; considering he didn't get the job done in Minnesota or SD after failing with us!

I picture the scene from The Princess Bride where Vaccini is arguing with the Dread Pirate Roberts COMPLETELY outsmarting himself when trying to figure out which glass he put the poison in.

"We clearly cant run the ball because that is what they expect, but clearly we cant pass the ball because being the genius that he is, Herm would clearly expect that we knew this and would defend the pass!"

    Our coaching staff is inconceivable.

if anything...since we're throwing out possible D-coordinator scenarios....maybe Romeo Crennel gets the boot in Cleveland....and we can entice him to come to NYC to replace Sutton....i think he could be a good choice....as we know, some coaches make better coordinators than HCs...this could be one of those cases.....any thoughts?

Maybe nyj.com could bring back the "Tuesdays with Teddy" segment that ran to rave reviews. It would be worth rehiring him for that alone.

that would work well considering those Pats Defenses were very good. And he and Mangini are good friends.

Does Crennel know how to adjust in game and gameplan to not play a pussy defense?
