I knew we would get some of these dumb interceptions, but Favre's decision making is inexcusable. I can't remember enjoying a win less. You can talk all you want about play calling but when your QB throws three dreadful picks your team is going to have trouble beating anyone. He has to throw it away when it's not there. On the plus side your never out of the game with him at QB.
Favre has games like this and has throughout his career. The team has been good enough to win 2 of the last 3 with bad games from Favre. Let's hope there are more good than bad games going forward. We really shouldn't be shocked to see games like this from him because they just happen. If we can come out of them with W's, that's great. There really was no reason to be throwing as much as we did against the worst run defense in the history of run defenses though.
Did you REALLY have to post a thread that basically duplicates 8 others that have been posted in the last 24 hours? Others can keep piling on into "me too!" new thread after new thread if they want, but I'm gonna stick to the ones that are already here.
I have to admit I am tired of the stupid interceptions. I've been a Favre fan for a lot of years but those 1st two interceptions are inexcusable. They weren't 3rd and long throws. They weren't happening when the team was behind. Brett was just throwing the ball up for no good reason. The 3rd INT I will give Brett a bit of a pass since Stuckey stopped running his route. Favre threw to a spot and Stuckey wasn't there. I'll say this much about Favre....as great a QB all time as he is, he's a QB that needs to be coached moreso than any QB ever. Mangini may be more along the lines of what Mike Sherman was in Green Bay, and that's a coach that has too much respect for the man and not enough balls to get on the legend's case for screwing up. Holmgren and Mike McCarthy weren't afraid to be vocal in their criticism of Favre's decision making. The end results of this were less interceptions. Mangini needs to stop excusing Brett and start demanding more sound decision making from him. After all....its Eric's job on the line here.
To me, the logical way to cut down on the turnovers is to run the ball. Jones and Washington have been running the ball well and favre has not been passing well. But knowing schottenheimer he will do one of two things, start with pass happy offense and stick to it if its not working, or, start with run happy offense and stick to it when its not working. Either way, it's not very good.
I'm so tired of the "This is how Favre plays" BS... No.. this is how Favre plays SH1TTY!... When he played well last year he didn't throw into double and triple coverage. Now he's starting to revert back to sh1t Favre, which no one is really interesting in seeing.
he always throws into double and triple coverage watch some of his games. he has games with 3 bad picks, than he will have a few games where he will get all the breaks and those passes get caught somehow. remember week 1? fourth down off his back foot not even really looking at the endzone and he heaves 30 yards for a lucky score. we will see ridiculous plays like that again at some point this season because he just throws the ball in there sometimes. also our recievers have to get on the same page with him. two weeks in a row guys have stopped routes or gone for the hook when he wanted them to keep going for the streak. pretty much they need to know 2 things when favre is back there. never stop running, and when in doubt run as far as you can. they start doing that and those interceptions to nobody wont look as stupid or might not happen at all.
Favre takes a lot of chances and has throughout his entire career. Sometimes it turns into games with 3 interceptions and sometimes it turns into games where his receivers are making big plays downfield outmaneuvering d-backs for the ball. If you didn't expect to see some games like this from him then you haven't watched too much of him over the last 16 years. No one wants to see these types of games, but when he throws 3+ TD's to lead us to victory it's glorious. The fact that we're able to win games where he sucks is great, even if it is against a college team. I think Eli hucked a ball into double coverage in the superbowl that worked out pretty well for his team, didn't he?
I agree 100% with that. I've said the same thing so many times. He needs a good coach like Holmgren or McCarthy or he'll just wing it sometimes. I'm not so sure Mangini is up to the task. But we'll see, because Favre's first year with McCarthy wasn't so great either (although that was peewee team compared to this one)
On the same note: did you REALLY have to reply in the thread, do you really need something to bitch about that bad? Favre's still building a repetoire with the receivers and they will strengthen their mental connection as time passes. The pick that Flowers didn't run back was a dumb decision though regardless of familiarity with the team.
For the second week in a row, Favre threw to the outside while Cotchery cut up the middle. Is it really that hard to just run deep and go get it like Greg Jennings did last year? Chansi stopped on his route on the third int. The second int was a bad decision by Favre. I think part of the problem is we don't have the receivers that can make the big plays consistently or get good seperation. I do think Favre is very coachable if the coaches want to coach him and they should. They can cut down on his chances if they want to. The coaches themselves have a lot to work on as well. It made zero sense to not run on the 32nd ranked run defense. It seemed like a lot of our pass plays were also shotguns which pretty much gave us away. I didn't like all the passes on third and short either.
We should be throwing TDs on 3rd and shorts like we were against Az. Well, we could be if Shotty knew how to a call a damn play.
They have said this about Favre throughout his entire career, even in his MVP seasons, or MVP like season (like last year). Favre has always had games where he throws a slew of really bad looking interceptions. He always has a 2 to 3 game streak per season where he just doesn't look good. There is one thing Favre seems to always do, more often then anything else: Walk off the field with a W. I am not excusing the ints, no one ever has. It is sad that he never in his career got better about them: Still, the man knows what it takes to win football games. You just need to accept that every now and then,y our going to get a really bad looking interception. The best part is, Favre is the type of guy that will march right dowmn the field after one and get TD on the board. People love to hate Favre, and hate to love favre. Everyone likes the guy, not everyone likes how he gets teh job done. One thing cannot be disputed, however: He DOES get it done. You may not like it, but he has made it work for him for 16 years, and so far with yet another winning record to this point, 17. When it stops working for him entirely, let me know.
