well I think the win now approach is completely over hyped, the moves that mangini made are for guys who r under 30. I like Mangini I think he commands a locker room well, but he is to trust worthy of people I think that in all honestly ownership puts pressure on mangini to make coaching staff changes (hopefully for the better) You cant blame him for execution I think that Mangini would be a better GM than coach but we will have to see. I say u stick it out for one more year and then if u dont like where u are u let him go. Remember for every Wade Philips there is a Marvin Lewis
I don't know what type of proven NFL head coaching commodity you want. Anyone who is available is either unproven or has been fired. Yes, there are a few guys you can try to coax out of retirement, but sometimes even those guys struggle. Mangini was a moderate risk, high reward coach who also hurt a division rival. I can't disagree with that.
eric mangina appears in everything he does to be a bit of a control type of guy, from the dont talk about injuries to the refusal to change the gameplan at any point after it is put on paper. this is a HUGE problem and this team will not be successful until he learns to adjust instead of thinking his shit doesnt stink.
No one is talking about it much but... YES! In fact, it looks like the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) has lapsed, and is not being renewed... So either free agent frenzy will take over the NFL, or there will be another players' strike. Or some kind of last minute deal (although both sides deny it.) I'm not sure if it's this season or next, but yeah, they just might be shutting down the NFL after this season.
Don't forget that herm Edwards and Terry Bradway were stuck with a bunch of onerous, long-term contracts when they took over the Jets (See Mo Lewis, who was at the end of a great career and got a golden parachute that hamstrung the jets if they wanted to sign free agent talent), And don't forget that bill Parcells left us the Bill Belichek disaster. Look, I appreciate Parcells as much as he next guy, he's a very good coach. But he left the Jets a team in disarray. The players were about to revolt against Al Groh (who escaped to college football), after Belichek pulled his evil stunt on the team which led to chaos. Edwards did a lot to restore stability and a winning attitude to the team. Too bad the GM didn't take care of the OL after Fabini and MacKenzie left the team, but Edwards should not be blamed for that.
Im going to disagree. From all reports Mangini never wanted Brett Favre, that was more the owner wanting him . (probably Psl had a big part of it) Mangini was more than happy to go with Pennington- a very intelligent QB that knows where the football should go. (going to make correct reads everytime) A big thing about Mangini is ball security and your not going to get that with a gunslinger Brett favre. ( must be driving Mangini crazy) Also you look at the Oline they built, there strength was suppose to be run blocking. Those guys weren't known as great pass blockers(Faneca and D woody) It seems to me Jets are trying to fit a square piece in a round hole. IF Jets would have known they could get favre this offseason , you can bet the farm that they would have try to build a diffrent type of Oline. Probably would have Put a higher priority on getting some speed playmakers , that can utilize brett favre arm. With Pennington arm those type of Players would be wasted.(so it wasn't as high a priority.) Reason they went for The TE.(keller)
Mangini liking Chad is hardly to his credit. I understand the five year thing, but that's five years to put together a Super Bowl contender, if not winner. Given the arc of improvement necessary to get there, you imo do not spend year three stuck in neutral. Which is pretty much where the team is. They got rid of the players who they thought did not fit their scheme, in some cases not quickly enough, as in DRob. They have replaced them with FA's they chose to bring in, and have been drafting some good players. And for those who want to blame Favre over much, remember not only is he a sure HOF'er, he led his team to the conference champ game less than a year ago. Year one of the current regime is a fading memory at this point. Year two, we all give him up to a point due to injuries, but you would hope there would be some improvement occurring that was just not reflected in the record. That brings us to this year. Aside from the mediocre record, and the controversial play calling, what most concerns me is how uninspired the team looks out there. Why is that? I don't think you need an HC who gives revved up, over the top fiery speeches to get the players psyched. This is the pro game. But you do need the players to buy into what the CS is selling. There needs to be a confidence, partly I think we would all agree that the CS can make adjustments, think on their feet, manage the game. You don't inspire confidence by glumly going into a game with a game plan immediately found wanting and morosely stick to it even when events in the form of the other team's play and attack gets in the way. I wish I could say there is something in what we see now that should inspire some optimism. Perhaps the sheer talent of the roster will allow them to prevail enough to win the games they should and maybe one or two that look like tough games right now. But man, even the "what me worry?" types here I would think should have a difficult time seeing where the team is right now as likely to lead to that. The season is not over, of course, and it's possible that things will turn around. I frankly think it's at least as likely we could all be sitting here this time next year with a general consensus that Mangini is not the answer.
where all of those reports? i have yet to see even an article written by a beat writer saying mangini was against favre.
It's just possible that Mangini is not head coaching material. I think he's a smart guy that can game plan well, but he has trouble making adjustments on the fly. It's as if he just blacks out if his game plan doesn't work and he has not idea how to improvise. Good assistant, but not necessarily the guy you want steering the ship. I think this season could deliver the verdict.
Sad but true. If he has good players that don't fit his scheme they are basically a waste. A good coach can make the most out of talent.
I really don't think Mangini was medium risk. Hiring such a young head coach who refused to hire anyone older than himself sounds high risk to me. Mangini was a high risk hire with, I guess high potential reward. Then again the same could be said about the Cable-man. We know which one of them won last week.
Which makes this all the more concerning. He's got his NT in Kris Jenkins, he's got his pass rushing playmaking OLB in Calvin Pace (with improvement from Bryan Thomas) and he has his experienced Pro Bowl guard in Alan Faneca. I could not have possibly even dreamed up all the off-season acquisitions the JETS made this past year ---- if I had even suggested a mock offseason picking up FAs Alan Faneca, Calvin Pace, Damien Woody, Tony Richardson & trading draft picks for Kris Jenkins, I would have been roasted by other posters on this website. And I havent even mentioned FAVRE. After all of that, the failure of this team to compete will rest squarely & entirely on the shoulders of EM & his staff. Any success will be as a result of good coaching & proper roster moves. However, their inability to demonstrate the slightest in strategy/game plan adjustment in the 3 losses alone (New England, SD & Oakland) leaves me lacking any confidence in this CS.
just gettin started why do so many posters on here talk as if this thing is already over.the jets just got farve.he is just learnin the playbook.if baker doesn't fall down the jets get a great win..thomas jones had his best game as jet.i still think this team wins 10 games this yr.and make the PLAYOFFS!!!!
HAHA. Become a 'Fish fan. Let me know how that works out for ya. Relax. Give the man some time to work. Someone posted he knows his X's and O's. I agree. I have asked before, who do you think we would get at coach if they fired Mangini? I'll stick with him and the continuity along with it.
I tend to agree with you. A lot of the problems can point to the coaching staff, but some of the blame must also fall to the players. I'm not sold on Shotty as an offensive coach yet. I could for see Callahan taking over at some point if things continue to falter. Sutton's Defense is doing much better against the run and in getting pressure, but needs to work on coverage against the pass. All in all I would want Shotty gone before sutton at this point.
