    Eagles | T. Hunt released
    Tue, 14 Oct 2008 14:44:05 -0700

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced they have released RB Tony Hunt.

    _________________________________________________________________

As a big PSU fan, I naturally love Tony Hunt. He is one of the most underrated backs - he rushed or over 1,000 yards each year he started in the Big Ten. He is a very good all-around back and can play RB or FB, plus can take over goal-line duties.

I am officially for, and an advocate of, signing Tony Hunt.

I thought the word on him was that he was slow as hell and couldn't block.

um, it's kind of an indictment on the guy when #1 a team from pa, #2 with an injured starting rb, and #3 a current feature rb with a history of injuries releases him. logic would dictate that when a team releases a rb that needs help at rb, said rb is not very good.

    Word.

Tony Hunt is as over ratedof a big back as thier is right now. Too slow to be an NFL RB for sure. Sad really.

He reminds me of Roger Vick. I wasn't impressed with Hunt in college and certainly not from what I've seen from him with the Eagles.

He was released because he had difficulty picking up the playbook.

As a senior at PSU he had 1,386 yards rushing on 277 carries (~5 ypc) and 11 TDs, with 27 receptions for 259 yards and 3 receiving TDs.

As a junior he had 1,047 yards rushing on 174 carries (~6 ypc) and 6 TDs, with 20 receptions for 206 yards.

POSITIVES: Powerful runner who is best on the inside. Strong in his lower body, keeps his feet moving on contact and breaks tackles to pick up yardage off initial contact. Displays good vision, always looks downfield to set up blocks and instinctive.

NEGATIVES: Not an elusive runner who makes defenders miss. Average speed and cannot beat defenders around the corner.

ANALYSIS: Possessing a solid overall game, Hunt is a competitive back with potential at the next level. Could develop into a starter, or may be effectively used in a system which rotates ball carriers.

Heir to the FB position and a receiving threat.

I'm sorry but if I'm the Jets they should be all over this guy despite that we have 3 RB's.

I saw the Penn State games, he was a monster at penn state and was one of my favorite RB's in 2007.

The Eagles has misused him in a non-touch FB position for the last 2 seasons. He did so well this preseason and this was his reward.

He has 25 plus carries in him. Don't be surprised if he becomes a poor man's Larry Johnson with his running style.

If he couldn't pick up the playbook after an entire training camp, preseason and 6 weeks of regular season, what reason is there to believe he'll be able to come to another team mid season and pick up a different playbook? RB is supposed to be the easiest position to jump to the NFL from college. The guy must not be very smart at all. I'll bet he gnaws on rocks for breakfast.

lol Hunt is a 25 plus carry RB. Any team that gets him and uses him right are getting a steal. I hope the Jets get him
