to me BUBBA/BAKER/KELLER create great mismatches for D...i would of thought that TE would be such a bigger part of pass O
Well, Coles and Cotchery are Favre's main targets and both of 'em are doing well to make plays. I guess it'd be nice to see the TEs get more touches, but I'd still rather have the WRs catching the ball.
Only one guy can catch the ball at once. Cinci has better linebackers then they do defensive backs and that's why Coles and Cotchery combined for 16 catches. Against teams with a stronger secondary and slower LB's (Oakland) I think you'll see more out of the TE's.
Baker could of gotten a TD on that play if he could have carried that little DB a few yards. Didn't he watch those Bavaro highlights?
I dont think Schotty got to the section of the playbook that involves TE. That would mean Favre would have to throw the ball down field. Maybe by Week 12...
Yeah, this is how I see it. The WR's are doing a great job of getting open and making yards after the catch. That means the Jets aren't being put in a lot of 2nd and 3rd and longs where Favre might have to check down to the TE's in the middle. Having Leon Washington available as an outlet who can go to the house on any play is also having an effect I think.
A little too many 1 yard dump passes called by the coaching staff today which probably led the the TEs not being used as much in the passing game.
Favre checks down a fair amount. Not as much as Chad, but they're both West Coast oriented QB's and that system says checkdown if you don't have a high percentage pass opportunity down field. I'm guessing the majority of the dumpoffs today were exactly that, particularly Favre's audibles with Coles, which he tried two or three times. Those all went 3 yards and under.
Could be that the Tightends aren't getting open........... which when you see the balls that Favre is throwing to the wideouts and where he will try to fit the ball, must mean they are pretty bad at getting separation.
I really don't understand the obsession Schotty has with running these one yard pass plays. They never work. And when they do work, it's because Cotchery makes a great play to break a tackle, not because the play was set up properly.
keller did catch one of the three tds favre had to throw on the first tochdown drive. but yes today they were not used enough. the screen passes did become overused today. im not sure why they got called so much today. i dont think this offense right now is set up to take advantage of the te's. hopefully they can adjust to having talent at the position. this offense certainly has adjusted to favres strengths so far, so i have faith.
