ROCK ON BRETT FAVRE! BRING US THE RING BABY! http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/...etwork&page=nfl/news/newstest.aspx?id=4183042 Favre, Johnson, Reed selected as AFC's top players New York, NY (Sports Network) - New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre, Kansas City linebacker Derrick Johnson and Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed have been selected as the AFC's top players for Week 4 of the NFL season. Favre was the top offensive player after throwing a career-high six touchdown passes in his 257th consecutive start as the Jets defeated the Arizona Cardinals, 56-35. He went 24-for-34 with 289 yards and an interception for a passer rating of 123.7 in the game. His six TD passes tied Hall of Famer Joe Namath for most touchdown passes in a game by a Jets quarterback. Favre's previous career-high was five touchdowns, which he accomplished three times, and it was also the 20th time he threw four or more touchdowns in a game. It is his first weekly award in the AFC. Johnson nabbed defensive honors as he posted seven tackles, one-half sack, one interception and one forced fumble in Kansas City's 33-19 win over the Denver Broncos. In his fourth year in the NFL, it is his first weekly award and the first Chief to win the defensive award since safety Bernard Pollard in Week 17 of 2006. Reed earned special teams honors after hitting a 46-yard field goal in overtime to help the Steelers to a 23-20 victory over Baltimore. It was the seventh game-winning field goal of his career. He made all three of his field goal attempts (49, 19, 46 yards) in the game and totaled 11 points. This is the third weekly honor in his seven-year career.
Actually I think its the 56th game with 4 or more TDs not 20. Marino has the record with I believe 63.
^Can't be, can it? 56 of 257 games with 4tds? That would be 22% of the games!! That implies 3.5 games per 16 game season of 4tds or more--maybe so! BOW DOWN YOU MORTALS TO THE TRUE MASTER OF OFFENSE
I find that hard to swallow. 52 games x 4 TD + 3x5 + 6x1 = 228 TD. That leaves 227 touchdowns for his 201 other games, or barely one TD per game. He's had numerous long "consecutive TD games" & I believe I've heard very few games he's been completely shut out of the end zone, and no doubt numerous 2/3 TD games. If you take your Marino numbers of 63x4 & subtract that from his 420 career total, you get 168 TD left over, an even harder to swallow number. The numbers just don't compute.
At first glance I agree that it doesn't seem to add up, but taking into condiseration the fact that Favre has never won a game where he was down by 14 or more points (fact stated on Monday night game) it might actually be true. You would think if he had more games of 2 or 3 TD's he would have won a game or two where the Packers/Jets were down by 14.
Yeah he's definitely done it at least a few times. Maybe the announcer meant he's never come back from down more than 14 points.
he's never won a game when he was down by MORE than 14. 2 TDs yes, just not more than 14. Also Brett only has 20 4TD games. Marino has 22 I think. They're #1 and #2 respectively in that category.
Those numbers sound pretty close to what i saw on ESPN recently. Only thing I dispute on your post is the number of TDs. I think that stat is for 3 TD games, not 4 TD games.
Probably part of the reason for this is that GB had a lot of years where they were rarely ever down by that many points.
Favre is a legend and legends never die. This guy might have one more good story left in him and we will reap the benefits
Where are the darksiders now. Come on let's here you spew your negativity. Oh wait Brett threw 6 TDs, I bet you didn't see that coming!
neither did you. a lot of ppl who were overly pessimistic prior to this week are now overly optimistic. this board (and probably most sports forums) need to learn some balance.
EXACTLY! That is the point behind my posts. I'm being as overly optimistic to compensate for the overly negative statements made in previous weeks. It's called sarcasm, but it's lost on the darksiders!
