Kiffin responds to Al Davis' press conference. http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/videopage?videoId=3618948&categoryId=2378529 "[This conference] was very painful. It was very painful for myself and my family. A lot of accusations being made there, a lot of information being put up, and a number of lies. It was very hurtful. It was tough to stomach for myself and my family, but it is what it is and we'll deak with it and move on from here."
If you're Lane Kiffin and you've been nothing but undercut on and off the field since the end of last season if not sooner what would you do? I mean really, on what other team does the head coach not be allowed to participate in defensive gameplanning or have his job publicly threatened every other week in an attempt to make him quit?
And that's the key there, Tony. The man's in the last stages of dementia, I'd bet there's at the very least a 75% chance that he made all of these accusations up. Also, I feel this is appropriate here:
If Kif ends up in KC, won't the whole division be bitter ex-Raiders coaches? That would be interesting, and KC might be in the market for a new coach by the end of the year.
Al Davis is out of his fuckin skull have fun Raider fans. You'll be back hahahaha I thought it sucked being a Jet fan. This old dickhead is nuts
Wow... three pages of Kiffin being fired and not one sign of RaiderJeaux not only assuring us that the impending Raider dynasty is intact, but even advanced by this brilliant move. It's too bad they won a game already... otherwise they would be an excellent candidate to go defeated this season. Oh, well. There is always 1-15.
I thought it was Yoda holding the press conference, what a psycho, he must be pushing 90 by now, time for the dirt nap...never could stand him...he learned power point though...another black eye for the NFL...
from Rotoworld: In a lively and at times bizarre press conference, Davis added that Lane wanted to hire his father Monte as defensive coordinator, and that Monte was on board with the plan. According to Davis, Kiffin asked to be let go for a possible college job which led to Bobby Petrino's sudden departure from the Falcons in order to beat Kiffin to Arkansas. Other highlights: Davis blamed Kiffin for trading Randy Moss and referred to ESPN's Chris Mortensen as a "professional liar." It sounds like the disjointed and nonsensical plot of a daytime soap opera.
I heard the entire press conference on NFL Radio. Al Davis is a pathetic demented old man, who should not be running an NFL franchise. This press conference is an embarassment to the entire NFL. I would not take anything he said to heart. He was telling his own point of view, which is totally wrong. He has undercut Kiffin at every turn. I hope Kiffin gets his money.
Wow, just wow. I cant imagine one person out there chomping at the bit to want a head coaching job in Raiderland. Personally I like Kiffin. To be under constant threat of losing your job and still go out there and have your team play hard for you is amazing. Yes they blew alot of leads from this year to last but the team never quit on him and I've never seen players that outspoken on how much they liked a coach and stop just short of calling the owner an ass for creating the situation that he did. Heres to Kiffin getting another chance somewhere, maybe KC which would make for an even better rivarly .
I'm glad that just this once, the Jets are not a main attraction in the three ring circus. What a joke, and it's all over what, $4 million dollars? A drop in the bucket. Why make the bleeding go on longer and make your dispute public when it's over nothing? That's the part that doesn't make rational sense. Al Davis has just made himself look like more of an ego maniac over virtual peanuts (to him anyway). If you're not overly concerned with keeping up an image and more concerned with putting a winning product on the field, maybe you do get rid of Kiffin, but you don't air your dirty laundry in public in some wacked attempt at defending yourself.
I dont know if i missed it buried in this thread but what does this mean for Rob Ryan? I know a lot of people on this board were high on him for our DC. Im sure the Raiders will hold on to him but what about at the end of the year?
Here's an interesting read regarding the press conference and what happened after it: http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawaka...fin-conned-me-like-you-conned-all-you-people/ Davis really does seem like a psycho. He was all over the place there.
