because that would mean the Jets have the ability to control their own destiny and the outcome of the game in their favor, and if they lose it is because of their own performance. KurtTheJetsFan wants to create a scenario in which there is some force, i.e. the Chargers attitude, that the Jets simply can't overcome. it is simple fear, insecurity and irrationality. sports psychology has shown that the teams you cheer for become part of your identity, hence why we say "we" or "us" when discussing teams, and the team want that personal association from the fans so that we are loyal and continue to spend money on the team. by creating a force the Jets can't overcome, KurtTheJetsFan is essentially perpetuating the idea that the Jets are somehow victims and not in control, which is a direct repercussion of his own image of himself as a victim because he isn't in control of the actions of the game, therefore the Jets must not be either. sorry to go all psycho-analytical, but the victimization mentality I see from Jets fans is pathetic. I don't see myself as a victim, and I don't project that onto the Jets. I'm going to assume the Jets are just as motivated to win the game as San Diego. if they aren't, than that is a problem with the head coach -- the very thing the OP is talking about.
it's not possible for teams to be better than they were the year before, or conversely, worse? by your argument, every team should stay constant every year, and there shouldn't be any improvement or deterioration in teams ever. yes, it is possible the Jets are better than a team that was in the AFC Championship last year. I mean, the Chargers were only there because they beat, and were better than, the Super Bowl champs from a year before. how could that be is the prior seasons performance was an absolute in regards to which team is better the next year?
HOLY SMOKES LOSSING this game is acceptable. WHEW, If this team cant compete with the big boys now, How are we going to do down the room when the other teams are clicking also. WHEW acceptable to loss this game. I am so done with lossing I WANT TO WIN.
Great, so what if we lost 43-42? Will it be because Mangini doesn't use Favre properly? Let's watch the game before we start to place blame anywhere. And by the way, if we win the game 9-6, Mangini should be under the gun just as much. Winning is not the factor, offensive production is.
With both Buffalo and the Pats going 3-0 after today you better believe this is a must win game. I too penciled this in as a loss before the season started. That was before we got Favre and a defense showed we can stop the run. Must win.
We are 8 point underdogs but if we lose its all Mangini's fault? We are expected to lose. We are not as talented or seasoned as SD yet. We are still working on jelling together on both sides of the ball.
Who said we wouldn't be? WTF do you think makes the difference in a football game...anger and passion? The Chargers can play. We can play. Why this game has to "mean something" is beyond me...they win they win they lose they lose...life'll move on and we'll still have 13 games to play... Every game is not a fucking matter of life or death...its September man...
^Obviously, no game is a matter of life and death. If I may speak for some folks, I think what we are concerned with is the lack of urgency we sense in the coaching staff--as though they too are none-too-concerned with winning at all costs and that losing is acceptable. Of course, unless you are NE, you're going to lose some games. But why go into battle with the idea that losing is ok? And regarding the Cheats, as much as I hate them and you do to, do you think they go into games with a losing is ok mentality? If you fight as hard as you can, and do everything possible to win, who's going to blame you for a loss? But if you don't fight as hard as you can, and you don't formulate plays that have a reasonable chance at success, who wants to fight alongside you and who will you inspire?
And it really needs 4320483240823480 threads? This may stun you, despite that OPINION amongst fans...no one in their right mind fuckin believes that. It makes NO sense on any level...and it's more a sign of a reactive fanbase that has NO idea what it takes to win a football game...just that it should be won and if it's not its SOMEONES fault. This week its the coaching staffs... You'd swear this team got walked all over the past 2 weeks...
so the Jets losing isn't a big deal as long as they are expected to lose? do you really approach the Jets seasons in that way. who gives a shit what people expect of the Jets, at the end of the day, it only mattters how they perform. by that logic, if the Jets are expected to lose every game, and they do, Mangini's job should be safe because how he could have been expected to win games they were expected to lose. you have to agree with that because it is the repercussion of your argument.
It's not that the Jets are expected to win or lose....it's the complete overreaction to one loss so early in the season. It's like you guys expected 19-0 and nothing less...
They lost like any other team...outscored by their opponents. Stop overanalyzing shit. Something going wrong doesn't mean theres something fuckin mentally wrong with the team. A loss is not a sign of bad character or stupidity, it's a loss.
I totally agree. How long are the lame excuses going to continue? We have Favre and it's going to be for a very short time. The fact that they are playing conservative offense is just ridiculous and embarrasing. 2 games and not 1 for 200 yards passing. No excuses tuesday morning.
so every team that loses played the same. just because someone understands complex scenarios far deeper than simplifying them to their most barest similarities couldn't be any farther than over-analyzing them. the question is why you have to reduce them to those simplistic similarities to grasp them? by your logic, losing a shootout in which the offenses were unstoppable would be the same as a team losing in a blowout in which the entire team couldn't do anything. just because a team lost in each game doesn't mean those two teams played, or lost the game, for the same reasons. a games outcome is absolute and dependent only on the score. the multitude of factors of how those factors were accomplished are not.
No this point is exactly right. Mangini has lost the edge he had in 2006. He has been way to conservative and if the Jets don't start racking up wins he should be fired. Its not so much the losing that bothers me its how he's been losing - playing safe. I finally thought we had a coach with the guts to play to win but I have been disappointed. Its put up or shut up time.
