Clinton Hart had surgery, LaDainian Tomlinson figures he'll be 100 percent soon, and Shawne Merriman's rehabilitation can now officially begin.

Hart broke a bone in his hand early in Sunday's game as he and Eric Weddle collided while going for an errant Jay Cutler pass. He had surgery early yesterday and was at Chargers Park by midday to watch game film.

?I'm going to play with it,? said Hart, who wore a large wrap on his hand. ?I'm gonna do my best with it.?

Tomlinson yesterday said he too planned to play through the pain of a sprained big toe that limited him to 10 carries Sunday in Denver and that the long week before Monday's game against the New York Jets should help.

?This will be a week that I can get a lot more treatment; I've got an extra day,? Tomlinson said. ?Hopefully, the treatment and the rest will put me pretty much where I want to be. Hopefully, next week I'll be able to be more productive but also play a little bit more. Have some more carries, and do pretty much what I have always been able to do.?

Tomlinson said he was feeling better yesterday than the previous Monday and expects to be close to 100 percent by the time the Chargers play at Oakland on Sept. 28.

Also yesterday, Shawne Merriman had surgery to repair the torn PCL and LCL in his left knee. The surgery was performed in South Florida by Dr. John Uribe, one of the specialists Merriman visited last month.

    Little guys
Tomlinson, who is 5 feet 10 inches tall, was asked if he ever thought his fullback and backup were shorter than him.

?No,? he said. ?In fact, we make fun of them. We say when they're both in the backfield, it works well because the defense can't see either one of them.?

Must have worked for the 5-6 Darren Sproles and 5-9 Mike Tolbert, who combined for 194 yards from scrimmage on Sunday.

    Nuts 'n' Bolts
The NFL confirmed Merriman was fined $7,500 for a hit below the knees on Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme in their Sept. 7 game.

Head coach Norv Turner said Antonio Cromartie (hip) ?made it through all right. He's sore, but physically he's no worse.?

Tomlinson's streak of games with at least one run of 10 or more yards ended at 28 when he failed to gain 10 yards in any of his 10 rushes Sunday. The streak, which dated to Oct. 15, 2006, had been the longest current such stretch in the NFL.

Antonio Gates might be somewhat limited with a still-healing toe and bruised hip. But he's been effective. Seven of his eight receptions have been for first downs. The only one not counted for a first down would have been had he not fumbled against Carolina.

^As you so aptly said, last week is over by Tuesday and this week is this week! Also, the Pats and Jets rivalry has a lot of emotional baggage and psychological bullshit associated with it. BB is a master of that shit.

BB is like Hannibal Lechter and EM is like that crazy deformed guy who spent his whole life trying to get even, and then fell into his own trap. This may explain the goal-line play calling.

Anyway, outside of figuring that EM will call a bad game, how do you come up with an SD victory?

^ good point and good analogy. I just don't want anyone's guard down even though they lost a huge factor in their defense and have hurt offensive stars. Thats how the enemy is allowed to surprise.

I come up with a San Diego victory if they score more points than the Jets....

San Diego will still come to play, but I can't think of many more teams suffering from the injury bug than they are right now.

Sproles scares me... that guy needs to be contained on those WR screens and kick returns.

Sproles is sproles. I'm not going to say he will gash you guys a bunch this week. But I will say hold your breath whenever he touches the ball. I mean punt returns touchdowns hb screens pitches. They get him behind guys a WHOLE foot taller than the 5'6 (generous) RB and noone can find him. Thats the reason he is so succesful. he dissapears for a split second and then is gone through the hole. He is ridiculously fast through the hole and he is strong (outbenched merriman rookie year).

After the way SD lost their 1st two games - I'd actually say we are catching them at the wrong time. They are going to be pretty pissed off and focused if you ask me. I'm looking at it from the perspective that this will be one of the toughest games we play all season regardless of who is hurt on their squad.

What's all this crap I'm hearing about the Chargers wanting revenge? Didn't they want to win the last two games as badly as this one? Doesn't every game count? If anything they'll be distracted by the prospect of being 0-3.

Maybe they are pissed off or maybe they pretty much feel like they're going to lose no matter how hard they try.:jets:

I sure hope Tomlinson isn't at 80% or more on Monday.
