I know virtually everything has been covered 2 or 3 times here but I'm new so endulge me. We all have an unhealthy obsession with the upcoming draft, thats a given. The problem is we are all 100% powerless to effect the outcome. The given perception of the teams draft strategy is that they will "use all their resources to make the best selections". That kind of stuff is really just crap. Someone's gonna make the call and it's probably Tanny. The fact is that Tanny is a pencil pusher, so he's relying on someone for his info and it's not Mangini because he's got enough on his plate at hofstra. Cutting to the chase, is that nose-picker Bradway still lurking in the shadows ready to F-up our draft again? In your opinion who's putting our Draft Board together and will it suck once again?
Bradway was never that bad at the draft...infact his only REALLY bad draft pick was Bryan Thomas... Bradway was just an awful negotiator... I actually believe Tanny is running the entire ship. I think he has been doing his homework and I believe he and Eric will make a joint decision.
Dewaune robertson was pretty bad too. we shoulda just waited for kennedy to fall to us atleast we would have a big NT right now. not a pass rush DT who cant pass rush.
Yeah b/c Kennedy has certainly been a much better player than D rob. Despite the fact he barely even played his first 2 seasons
Jets Name Mike Tannenbaum General Manager The New York Jets announced today the promotion of Mike Tannenbaum to General Manager and that Terry Bradway has agreed to remain with the Club in a consulting position. The announcements were made by New York Jets? Chairman and CEO Woody Johnson. "It was my decision to go in a new direction, and we have mutually agreed Terry Bradway will step down as general manager, and remain with the Jets as a consultant on player personnel and the draft," said Johnson. The same consultant that brought you D-Rob for 2 first round picks and the electric combination of Doug Jolley and Mike Nugent with our first two picks last year. How many scouts do the Jets employ and who is the head scout that is funneling information to Tangini?
funny.... I've been thinking the same thing about the scouting or lack there of. Bradway, I guess will be the one responsible for providing the bio and background on any and all players that the coach and GM has questions on. I would think, that for at least the first 5 picks, the coach and GM has seen enough themselves to know what they want.
The coach has a lot to do with just how good a draft is. Remember goold ole Dick Steinberg? He has a rep as a draft / talent guru, then comes here and doesn;t pick a plyer that makes it to the pro bowl? The coaches were Coslet, Carroll and, I think, Kotite. Then parcells caomes in and Lewis, Glenn and (I think) Anderson make the Pro Bowl. My point is, we need to both find and develop talent. Also, you can bet Mangini will have a huge say in who is picked. Don;t you think Mangini is pending much of his time looking at film of the possible draft picks? Remember when parcells chose Bledsoe over Mirer? He said he looked at every snap taken by each player during their senior year ta college. mangini comes from the same work ethic. I am sure he is studying Leinert / Ferguson / Williams / Hawk and others 24/7.
He sucked at everything! Letting some of our top players leave without getting adequate replacements. -McKenzie -Ferg -Jordan to name a few Yet, Giving Ridiculous contracts to players that were almost finished: -Chrebet -Vinny -Martin to name a few. If this falls under your meaning of "an awful negotiator" I agree 100%
Penny check your facts Jets Acquire Doug Jolley New York City ? The New York Jets announced Thursday the acquisition of tight end Doug Jolley from the Oakland Raiders in exchange for the Jets? first-round draft choice (26th overall). Additionally, the Raiders will send the Jets the second round selection (47th overall) they received from the Houston Texans and two more selections from the sixth round (182nd from Arizona and 185th from Dallas). Along with the first round pick, the Jets will send the Raiders one of their seventh round selections (230th overall from Minnesota). The Jets now own nine picks heading into the 2005 NFL Draft (April 23rd and 24th)
I had no faith in Bradway at all... However, I do think much like how the fellows on ESPN radio ( Kay specifically ) were bad mouthing Tannenbaum for the salary cap situation, I think Bradway worked out those deals for the players that Herman wanted.. I like to think the head coach is the guy in charge ultimately and therfore makes all the final calls. The others just make it happen.
I hope your right, but he's got alot on his plate being a rookie head coach and so many issues with the current roster as well as establishing the new staff and getting ready for training camp. There will be some delegating, let's hope these guys are on the same page. Just like any business, politics are always a factor. Personal relationships often play a factor with business decisions.
Remember the Jets are going to use the Patriots way of drafting. In that system each participant (which in the Jets case is at least the HC, OC, DC, probably Westhoff, Tannenbaum, and possibly Bradway or other scouts) will make a "case" for the player that they feel that should be picked. So, for instance, if Schott Jr thinks that Vernon Davis is the guy he gets a chance to convince everyone else. As they go through this process they gradually build their board. It will not be only Mangini or Tannenbaum making the call but a very collaborative effort. Because of this, we may see some surprises in the Jets choices.
While I am happy with the change at GM, the Jets would be in an awful fix if they had paid top dollar for ordinary players such as McKenzie, Ferguson and Jordan, none of whom had a good year with their new teams last year despite the big contracts. And it was Parcells that gave Vinny the big contract, not Bradway. Bradway was trying to manage it.
Jordan had an Excellent season considering he was behind a shit line!! -1500+combined yds with 11 TD's -Over 1000 yds rushing -1 fumble lost and did all this playing only 14 games!
Jordan did not have an EXCELLENT season and certainly did not live up to his billing and the $$$$ spent on him. Still you need at least 2 seasons to judge him properly, but doubts have been raised whether he can cosistently elevate his game.
i can say the same about dewayne i barely notice him on the field.. but that only because of all that phantom double teaming he gets rght?
