i would not make that a guarantee!! just as the jets will have time to gel with favre, so will the pats with cassel.
I think the only scenario in which Mangini gets fired this year is if the Jets stumble really badly out of the blocks and look lost along about week 7 or 8. If they go to like 1-3 before the bye (which would include an improbable loss to Arizona at home) and then lose 2 out of 3 right after the bye (which would include improbable losses to 2 out of 3 of Cincinnati, Oakland and Kansas City) then I think he gets the boot and Callahan takes over for the rest of the season. Odds on the above? Maybe 1%.
wow, a lot of what if's... also, from what i saw on the pi call, there was a slight left handed push by cotch, and when running it doesn't take much using their momentum to push them out of the way. it was called because he had great position also. ref had to make that call. as far as all your other scenario's, it could be said the other way around for the pats also. what if's are as usless as two tits on a bull........
No, this isn't a "same old Jets" thread, it's actually a "even same old Jets were better than the new Jets" thread
He's so real in his opinion, it had to wait until the Jets lost to create it. I would've taken this as yet another 'sky is falling' thread, but LTJF has been against Brett Favre coming to New York and been pretty adamant about it. He went on to start threads and tried to make points about how Brett Favre is simply not good enough and will not help this team be better than our 4-12 record last year. But everyone saw right thru is agenda and pretty much just saw him for what he was, a huge, pissed off Chad Pennington fan who hated to see his Quarterback get cut. So, this thread is really just a joke.
i have to admit, i'm not that much of a favre fan either. i would not have made the trade. favre's best years are way behind him. with the exception of last year(with a good greenbay team/young talent) he has been a shadow of his great years. personally, i think he had a 5 year span as a top qb, and then has been a shell of that qb since..... he certainly is better than noodle arm, but not the kind of qb to carry the team on his back and get us to the big one....
Boy, did you miss the mark or what. If you were to go back a couple of years to where the Packers were sucking wind, you would find plenty of posts from people calling for Brett Favre to quit because he was overrated and the game had passed him by. People would bitch incessantly about his INT total. Personally, I've always liked Brett Favre, but I'm not going to fault someone because they don't think it is a good move bring him to NY. There is a certain amount of risk involved in bringing back a guy who toys with the idea of retiring every year for the last 3 or 4. It is a temporary band-aid... for which we may not even see realistic results from.
Yeah, I mean, I only joined TGG this year. I'm not about to pull everyone's track record over the last 5 years on how ppl felt on any particular player. I didn't want him to retire, and when I heard he wanted to return I wanted to see him play for 1 or 2 more years for the Packers. When I heard he was coming to the Jets, I couldn't believe it. Even at last year's Playoffs, I wanted the Packers to beat the Giants because nothing would've made me feel happier than watching the Immortal Brett Favre bringing down the Evil Patriots Empire. I think that would've been the best ending to his career, but I still felt like he has it in him to compete in this league. In the last couple of years, the Packers only failed to make the playoffs once. And that year the Pack lacked a running game and a line. Favre was forced to put the team on his shoulders and try to carry the team That led to many losses and lots of interceptions. I think we have the exact same kind of talent that the Packers had last year, now that our running game is back on track. Once we work out all the penalty kinks and Favre gets a better feel for the receivers, I have to believe our team has a strong chance to make a run into and IN the Playoffs.
Quote: "...8. Kicking and punting game. I've really tried to give Nugent the benefit of the doubt, but you've got to have confidence that your kicker is going to make a 30-yarder. Those should be givens. And the punting has to get more consistent. Otherwise, both these guys need to go find employment elsewhere...." First of all, Nugent is hurt, that wasn't him missing that 30-yarder, that was Feeley. Secondly, I didn't see anybody who was available punting 70 yarders this summer when the CS was looking at alternatives to Graham.
Yeah, I was rooting for Favre to make it back to the SB last year as well. And I would agree that the problems they had over the last few years had more to do with issues other than the QB. Favre certainly still has all the tools he needs to be a top QB in this league. The point I was trying to make was that so many folks on here just blow with the wind, whatever direction it is going in. If we lose, the sky is falling. If we win, we're SB bound. Not everyone... but quite a few are very reactionary. I think things will go better as the offense comes together. It will take a couple more games to see it. However, Favre is still a concern just from his waffling on playing alone. I fear if we finish with 8-9 wins and miss the playoffs he's going to be less likely to come back. If we sneak in and have a good shot but still lose it may be more alluring for him to stick around one more season. Hopefully we make it back to the playoffs this year, but it is still going to be a tough road to do so.
I was talking about the one Nugent missed against the Dolphins. Don't remember how long, but it wasn't a big kick.
You don't pass for 65,000 yards in the NFL and get overated. If Favre's in Minn. they would have blown out the Colts last weekend. Brady and Manning have had powder puff jobs playing for who they are with. Like I said before, plug a QB into NE and you have a shot. For years the Pack have not been as good as Cincy and Favre makes the playoffs, where would Brady have been? In the hospital with Palmer. You don't show up at QB for 275 straight and not show your commitment. The Jets don't even have a kicker or a punter. Shit, Ray Guy is only 59, maybe he would come back, he could kick 60 in his prime so he only kicks a perfect 40 LOL. You guys kill me, you came within 9 points of the best regular season team ever from just last year and your doing this "Chicken Little" shit. Throw the ball and protect.
I get warned just as much as you. If we were on a Pats board and I pulled your pea-brained schtick, I would have been banned after 10 posts, wuss boy. Way to whine and wreck your tough-guy persona.
No, Chad is on the worst team in the league and almost beat us. Chad was the problem and he is gone now. No excuse for losing games, especially to Matt Cassell.
I would much rather gel with Favre then gel with cassel...lol...agreed? I looked at randy moss on the sidelines and if he could talk out loud it would something like "damn..this season is going to suck for me personally". I will stick to my guarantee..and im a bit of a darksider..not one for guarantees...the Jets will be a more dominant team by the time they meet again..and the Jets will win that game. With that said..this week is the toughest game of the year..and I cant find anything that tells me we could beat an 0-2 incredibly hungry Charger team at home....2-2 at the bye is all i wanted..then we fly.
Err, can you describe the difference between "brave" and "stupid?" Here's one definition: "Brave" is one of our soldiers going off to war. "Stupid" is calling someone "brave" after they post something (anonymously) on a football message board. "Stupid" describes the rest of your post, too.
