A new contract for Baker, a first-round draft pick in Keller, and a free agent signing of Franks...why? Why don't the Jets use these guys? And don't tell me they need to keep the TE's in to pass protect...it takes 1 second to complete a 10 yard pass down the middle of the field to a TE. That not only opens up the outside for Coles and Cotchery, it helps the running game by keeping the LBs and safeties back. Mangini is on his way to Kotite status. I don't understand how somebody supposedly so smart is making these decisions.
I agree with the TE thing, I was expecting Keller to be getting a lot of looks and being utilized as a "matchup problem" or a "wild card." We'll, he's not.
Great point. Granted, they're primarily targets closer to the redzone, but I think they've been underused so far.
I agree they have been underused. Sad that we seem to actually have some talent there and not get them the ball very often.
I don't get the move either. He wasn't in the game that much. Favre needs someone out there with good hands who can make a play.
I don't like how much they've been used either. Keller looks to have all the talent in the world. . .but talent as a Jet can sometimes be meaningless b/c we don't seem to try to feature mismatches. We just run they Schotty system and keep pounding away. Our first drive was excellent minus the botched field goal. what in the heck happened afterward ... sigh.
instead we run Thomas Jones three times on the goal line, because you know it worked so well last year...
Good point - especially considering how much Fahvra likes to hit TE's. Didn't schotty come from a TE heavy offense in SD? I'm not trying to shit on schotty but I'd like to see the TE's used more too!
the jets drafted keller in the first round! they traded up! and yet he has one freaking catch in two games!? In fact, i only saw him in on one play and that was that third down catch he has. What is this Schottenheimer? Put him in the slot, at TE SOMETHING! He has the speed to blow by any linebacker he faces and yet u put him in on one play?
The guy next to me at the game came from Wisconsin to see Favre play, he couldn't believe it. He asked me if Bubba Franks was still on the team.
The Jets had two tight ends on the field on a lot of plays yesterday. They just didn't throw that much that every player is going to catch balls.
I hardly ever saw Keller or Gholston on the field. The Jets were really playing not to lose and it killed them. Keller was awesome in the preseason, why should it be any different in the regular season? Oh, I know why. Coaching.
I was actually rooting for that strategy. It was basically Mangini telling the O-Line that this is their time to dominate...their time to physically beat the Pats d-line. It didn't happen...which should say something about the "greatness" of the revamped d-line. What I didn't like was the fact that the Jets didn't go for it on 4th down. If that was Mangini's strategy (run-run-run)...then I have Brett Favre go in the huddle on first-and-goal and tell the team, "We have 4 downs to run this mother-f_cker in. Go."
When we were on the goaline with 3 TEs in the game, I was certain we going to pass. I would have liked to seen them go with that formation and throw the ball. Especially with Bubba Franks who Favre knows really well.
Best thread ever. I thought I was the only person thinking that today. We have a fucking stable of tight ends, at least two of which can be awesome, and we have a QB who loves throwing to tight ends, and yet we run 1 or 2 plays a game to them. What the hell is happening?
@ the game I said the same shit... All these TE's and nuthin over the middle.. This was a Chess match. We tried to sell it as a Play action TE Pass but Belly didn't bite. He called the Bluff and he was right. Unless he somehow knew what we were calling but no way that can happen in today's NFL..
