Um, #2 is still the Saints taking Mario or Leinart, unless the Raiders, Vikes or someone else move up for Young or Leinart. I won't be "shocked" but it won't suprise me when if they don't take Ferguson. Especially considering that's a franchise that needs to put fans in its seats. I still think they go Leinart.
yes, and your credentials as an experienced professional football scout certainly make people stand up and take notice when you state your opinions...
It's not that I don't think Brick is any good, but he just seems like Adrian Jones with more hype. They have similar builds and blocking styles. I have enough confidence in Jones to think that he's good enough to be our starting LT. I also think RT is in need of more immediate attention, and that is a position that Jones does not do well at, and Brick has never played.
Except he already has medical issues during the prime part of his life. And more than likely will be relegated to the right side in the NFL. He's the wild card OT, many think he could go mid-round in the first (late teens), or drop right out of the first. At his size with the medical issues he already has, I'd definitely pass on him in the first round. He's only going to get older and have them become more and more problematic with age, which is terrible for him (it's just money and a job, hope he doesn't end up really screwed up after playing in the NFL)
Youre the first person to come up with a legit answer besides "theres tons of Tackles in this years draft" or " _______ is way better". I do see the similarities in Jones and Ferguson, but Ferguson has been doing this for yrs and is incredibly good at it and he has tons of potential. We dont know how Jones is going to be, but we have seen him play at the pro level and he hasnt turned any heads.
Dude- you are taking this WAY too far. You are saying that New Orleans traded a tackle so that the Jets would THINK they are taking D Brick, and would then trade up to get him? Are you serious? Talking about a certain player, or avoiding another is posturing-- this is just a team making a move.
We have to remember that Jones didn't start playing OL until his senior year of college, and I saw some glimmers of promise from him last year. Brick as a rookie may actually be a step back from what Jones can bring us as a 2nd year starter. He'll have more experience, and he'll be able to stay at LT (his natural position) for the whole year. I also think that Brick, while still a good prospect, does not deserve the comparisons to Orlando Pace/Jonathan Ogden (not directed at you, but I've heard them). Those players were on another level entirely when they were coming out of college. Drafting Brick doesn't necessarily "lock up" the left side for 10 years, like I've seen some say. For some reason I just see Brick becoming a Bryan Thomas on the offensive side of the ball if we draft him.
Don't even get me started. If we trade up to #2 and take Brick. . . I will swallow poison, light myself on fire, jump off a skyscraper, and put a bullet in my head before I hit the ground. And I'll make sure I'm covered by an HMO so there's no chance of recovery if I survive.
little late in chiming in but I had a huge smile on my face when I heard about this. Looks like our chances for mario have gone up. Can't wait for the draft.
I still think the Saints will take Mario Williams...I am a happy man with either Brick or super mario I think Brick and a pass rushing OLB would be a good way to add some talent to both sides of the ball... Brick and Bobby Carpenter would be awesome...
Well, I think the Texans know they can afford to take their time with Bush given the current state of their team. And when I say situational, I don't mean he's going to touch the ball 5-10 times a game. They may start him out with that, but prob quickly upgrade it to somewhere in the 10-15+ range as the season progresses. Remember, Bush didn't carry the entire load in college. It would be foolish to draft him with the assumption that he's going to be your every down back right away. He needs time to get used to the pounding. Houston is the perfect situation for Reggie. The fans know they're at least a year or two from maybe being a contender, and he doesn't have to come in and carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. He can take his time and get used to the NFL game without feeling the total pressure that comes with being a #1 overall pick.
Either they draft ferguson or trade for more picks, the jets have mario williams with our first pick i love it.
Saints Trade - Making Room for D-Brick? - Merged See the below. Saints traded starting O-Tackle to the Falcons. A prelude to D-Brick in N.O.? I hope so, that means Super Mario will wear green and white!... Saints trade Gandy to Falcons for Scott NFL.com wire reports NEW ORLEANS (April 6, 2006) -- The New Orleans Saints traded veteran tackle Wayne Gandy to the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday in exchange for safety Bryan Scott. The Falcons also agreed to give the Saints a future conditional draft choice in exchange for Gandy. Scott, who is entering his fourth NFL season, has started 35 of 47 career games at both safety and cornerback for Atlanta. Gandy, who is 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, will be entering his 13th season and was signed by the Saints as a free agent in 2003.
And here's a highlight from the ESPN.com article on the Saints O-Tackle trade. Very interesting.... "Gandy has three seasons remaining on his contract, at base salaries of $4 million for 2006 and $3.5 million each for 2007 and 2008. It is not yet known if his contract was adjusted as part of the trade. In 12 seasons, Gandy, a first-round choice of the then-Los Angeles Rams in 1994, has appeared in 191 games and started in 184 of them. Since 1995, his second year in the league, the former Auburn star has started at least 15 games every season. His career has included stints with the Rams (1994-98), Steelers (1999-2002) and Saints (2003-2005). It remains to be seen how the Saints, who have now lost three offensive line starters in the offseason, will replace him. One option might be to move Jammal Brown, the team's first-round choice in 2005 and an immediate starter at right tackle as a rookie, to the left side. Another might be to use the second overall pick in the draft to select a tackle. The Saints lost Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley to Cleveland as an unrestricted free agent and recently released guard Kendyl Jacox."
Thats a good heads-up. With Saints trading there LT, chances are Ferguson will be selected or there gonna trade down & draft another T in draft.
We can draft Super Mario with number four, and take other very good O Lineman in other rounds of the draft(Mangold at 29)(I aslo wouldnt mind Bobby Carpenter). Now I have been one of the biggest advocates of drafting D'Brick but if the saints take him, fine, we can take Super Mario, and i think alkot of Jets fans will be happy(at least I will). Now maybe this deal was done by the saints to kind of see how bad the Jets want D'Brick, and are "tempting" us to trade up, i kind of doubt it, but we'll see, only the FO knows whats going down........
