Johnson will turn 29 years old on 10/1. It is a rare running back who, at such an age, returns to a 1300 yard-type of season after having a season of 497 yards with a 2.9 average. Johnson might be a good goal line back and short yardage guy like Stephen Davis was for Carolina in 2005. I'd pass on Johnson, though.
I'd like to add Marcus Thomas, rookie RB from San Diego to the list who has just been released A 5th round this year, by no means played badly this pre-season, but Jacob Hester (their 3rd round pick) was just too good. I would like to get him
Yeah, with Chatman being an asshole now, I think the Jets should consider Thomas. There was talk that the Chargers could keep 6 RBs. In the end, that would have been crazy. I guess they did keep the other five (Tomlinson, Hester, Pinnock, Tolbert, and Sproles).
cincy is crazy. they just cut two of their best and most experienced players. we should go for them both. also, a decent CB would be nice.
Higher on the Depth Chart and also released was Deshaun Wynn a 1st year RB who showed a bit of promise last year. However he's an elusive-type and we don't need a player like that with Leon and Chatman back on the books after his roids suspension
Glad I didn't have to type that out myself. Leggett is terrible, he's soft, had bad hands, and is built like a toothpick.
adding more to the list: **6) Deltha O'Neal, CB. Released by: Bengals Although it doesn't seem like it, Deltha O'Neal is old now at 31. However he is still one of the fastest cornerbacks in the game. He is an experienced vet who while not being a HOFer type is an All-Pro corner. The Jets could use a guy like Deltha for a year or two so Lowery could hone his skills and take the spot from Deltha. Plus the Jets just need an experienced DB and Deltha is the best out there right now. **7) Dre Moore, DT. Released by: Buccaneers Moore was a 4th round draft pick from the 2008 draft. He is 6'4, 305 lbs and can play DT in a 4-3 or NT in a 3-4. I like Moore a lot, but to further persuade you here is what NFL.com has to say about him in his draft analysis. Pick Analysis: Moore is a guy who is comfortable in either the 3-4, or 4-3. He is strong and fast and is a very appealing value at this point in the draft. He also has a mean streak and can play tough in the trenches. His size and strength make him a force at the tackle position. We need depth along the d-line but I think Moore can develop into a star in this league. *8) Geoff Schwartz, OL. Released by: Panthers Schwartz is a rookie versatile lineman. He can play guard or (right)tackle and was a big reason for Jonathan Stewart's breakout season last year at Oregon. He is a mauler at 6'6 and 330 lbs and a tough dude. 9) Mario Urrutia, WR. Released by: Bengals Urrutia had a breakout freshman season at Louisville but did not live up to the hype after that. Left to go pro with his QB Brian Brohm. Urrutia is 6'6 and will give Favre a definite red zone target. 10) Nate Lyles, FS. Released by: Raiders Another rookie but Lyles can add depth to the FS position and he will be a good special teams player. 11) Jayson Foster, RB/WR. Released by: Dolphins The Jets don't need Foster. Foster is a slightly less skilled version of Leon Washington, but for any other team that needs a very quick back who can also work out of the slot and return kicks, Foster would be a good pick up. Runs the 40 in the 4.3s. 12) Joey Haynos, TE. Released by: Packers Haynos is a rookie and is 6'8. He is a decent all-around TE but the 6'8 is what really sticks out. Talk about mismatches. **13) Josh Barrett, FS. Released by: Broncos I take it back about Nate Lyles. Josh Barrett is the man the Jets need to get. Barrett is a workout warrior but also performed very well in college. He is 6'2, 225 lbs and runs a 4.35 40 (recorded at the NFL Combine). Barrett has had some issues with injuries but when he is on the field he is a fine player. He can play FS well, or in my mind he could make a very interesting 3-4 OLB because he is a hard hitter and good in coverage, big enough to be there, plus super fast. If nothing more, he will be a hell of a special teamer. 14) Rudolph Hardie, DE. Released by: Lions Hardie isn't a great fit for the Jets' 3-4 D, but he would be a good pass rushing specialist for a team that uses the 4-3 and doesn't mind him being slightly undersized. He is 6'2 and 270 lbs with a 4.72 so he is quick off the edge and he registered 9.5 sacks last year in his final year at Howard. *15) BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB. Released by: Pats BJGE is pretty much a one-dimensional power back, but the Jets need one, and what would be better than taking a player the Pats cut and having him ram short-yardage TDs down their throat  **16) Marcus Dixon, DE/DT. Released by: Cowboys I love Marcus Dixon. Yes he is the guy from the rape case that was shown on HBO which led to his lost scholarship from Vanderbilt, but the case was later overturned because the sex was consensual and he was released from prison and went to play for Hampton. Dixon has prototypical size for a 3-4 DE: 6'4, 292 lbs. He is very stout at the point of attack and great against the run. Because of his past he might not get a great shot with a team, but he is a very talented player who can excel if given the chance. Here are a few blurbs form his ESPN interview because I love him so much and he is a great fit for the Jets D. Colin (New orleans): Would you want to play a 3-4 end or would you like to play in a 4-3? SportsNation Marcus Dixon: It really wouldn't matter. But probably a 3-4 end, because I've been playing it for three years now. Colin (New orleans): What aspect of your game would you consider your best? What area do you need to improve on? SportsNation Marcus Dixon: Having to improve on is working on my hands. The best part of my game is that I'm a run stopper. The Jets have to have him. *17) Edward Williams, WR. Released by: Titans Williams is a 6'4 rookie WR who isn't slow but is primarily a possession guy. Has good hands and great size at 210 lbs. *18) Steve Octavien, LB. Released by: Chiefs Octavien has had injury problems but when healthy he is dominant on the field. He can play all LB positions but for the 3-4 I'd like to see him at ILB where he'd add great depth. He is very hard working and very athletic. **19) Kynan Forney, OG. Released by: Falcons Forney has been one of Atlanta's best players not counting last season when everything fell apart (for basic proof for those of you who don't follow the Falcons like myself just check past years of Madden). Forney has always been an RG and that is the one weak spot of the Jets O-line right now. He is an experienced vet but isn't that old as he is younger than Faneca. He could be a welcome addition and complete the Jets O-line.
Good list of guys GM As for Dre Moore - he had a reputation as a lazy piece of sh*t in college and was a lazy piece of sh*t in the Tampa summer camp. I'll pass.
**20) Chad Jackson, WR. Released by: Patriots The only thing Brett Favre has said about the Jets' WRs that someone could have taken as negative was that the team lacked a true depth threat. Enter Chad Jackson. Jackson is 6'1, 215 lbs, and runs a 4.3 40 (a legit 4.3 flat at the NFL Combine in 2006) and has broken into the 4.2s as well. He is heading into his 3rd year and this is the typical breakout year for a WR, however that only tend to be true when you stay with the same team for that whole time (Roddy White off the top of my head), but if signed it should take him at most one season to get into the swing of things and learn a whole new playbook. I'd love to see him catch TD passes from Favre and then shove them in Billy boys face. Also, this is what he said in his ESP SportsNation interview in 2006 before he was drafted (they were talking about what QB he wanted to be throwing the ball to him): tom van (green bay ): brett favre? SportsNation Chad Jackson: He's a great great QB. I hope he makes the decision to come back for another year. He knows the game better than anyone. I'd love to see a Favre to Jackson connection whilst wearing the green and white. 21) James Blair, OG. Released by: Bengals Blair is 6'3, 330 lbs and a mauling (rookie) offensive guard. He is much better at run blocking than pass blocking, but the fact remains that this man is very strong and makes a living out of making holes for his RBs to run in. Our running game could use a boost and while Blair wouldn't start he would add very nice depth along the O-line and if he had to come in at least we would know that we could run the ball.
I would be intrigued by Jackson if we didn't have a glut at WR. This wouldn't be his breakout year because he has been so injured.
