Who on our roster is ready to step in and be a QB for Baltimore. Clemens with a handfull of starts ? Ratliff who's never taken an NFL regular-game snap. Or our rookie Ainge. You seriously think one of these guys can come in and play for the Ravens? To learn a new offense in a week and be ready to start. That's crazy. They used a first round pick on 6-6 Joe Flacco. He's the team's future at QB. Troy Smith is sick right now but he'll be back. The Ravens might be a little shaky at QB to start the season but they'll be OK.
They need a QB period. Boller has a torn labrum and Newsome does not want to play Flacco under any conditions this year. He thinks that is what ruined Boller, playing him too soon. They may be waiting to see what happens with Simms but like I said, IF the rumor of Chatman going to Baltimore is true than what else can it be? They already have 4 RBs, they don't need 5. You don't trade 3rd string RBs, you can pick them up anywhere. You don't schedule announcements for 3rd string RBs that you cut. You just add them to the list. Some sort of deal with somebody is in the works. What it is we will find out later.
Not a starting QB, they need a backup. They still have Troy Smith. They need somebody between Smith and Flacco. And like I said, Newsome says forget Flacco for this year. That is why they are desperate. I was surprised when Miami traded McGown to the Panthers and not to Baltimore yesterday. That even leads me more to believe we are talking about a QB with Baltimore, especially if Chatman was being showcased as Cimini says.
ProFootballTalk.com JETS DOWN TO TWO RUNNING BACKS Posted by Mike Florio on August 30, 2008, 9:12 a.m. EDT Though not officially announced (yet) by the team, the New York Jets reportedly have cut running back Jesse Chatman. Chatman rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown in the team’s preseason finale. He was signed earlier this year as an unrestricted free agent from the Dolphins, where he appeared in 14 games and started six in 2007. Also released, reportedly, were linebacker Matt Chatham, cornerback Hank Poteat, tight end A.J. Schable, nose tackle Thomas Johnson, and fullback Jehuu Caulcrick. The Jets cuts running back Musa Smith earlier this week. The moves leave the Jets with only two running backs on the current roster: Thomas Jones and Leon Washington. They undoubtedly will sign another one, but they don’t have much room to move. Chatman’s release clears only $605,000 in 2008 cap space. One possibility is Najeh Davenport, who played with quarterback Brett Favre in Green Bay. It remains to be seen whether the Jets would pursue a vested veteran before Week One, or whether they’ll play the first game with only two tailbacks and sign a veteran thereafter. The Jets might also pounce on one of the running backs released by the Patriots, who currently have five tailbacks and a fullback.
When will it be official? Najeh is an interesting option. I'd be very interested to see who NE drops too.
So, which is right. They say he is cut, Cimini says he isn't. Really makes no sense they would cut him without having a replacement.
It?s not like we are leaded at QB. Troy Smith looked better than Clemens last year, and right now, Ratliff isn?t anything else than one of many preseason sensations and doesn?t have any tradevalue, or not much. And why would Baltimore trade Rice, when McGahee won?t be 100% healthy the next few weeks. That doesn?t make any sense at all.
Chatman and Clemens for a 4th next year. Since our 4th's have been so damn valuable i would jump for joy on that trade.
Well, they aren't going to start the season with two RBs. Makes no sense to cut Chatman to pick up another 3rd string RB. He is already cheap so it's not money. No matter how many ways I look at this it must mean they are working a deal for another back. Of course they could start the season with two backs and 4 QBs. Then try to slip Ainge to the PS in a week or two after everybody's roster is set and get another rb then.
Why get rid of Chatman? I haven't been really impressed with any RB this preseason, but Chatman provides some depth and has had a few nice runs and catches. Davenport is a nice bruiser, but he can't stay healthy.
CHATMAN REPORT WRONG? Posted by Mike Florio on August 30, 2008, 10:47 a.m. In response to a report in the Newark Star-Ledger that the Jets have released running back Jesse Chatman, Chatman?s agent has contacted us to offer his take on the situation. The Jets did not release Jesse Chatman, nor will they,? agent Brett Tessler said. ?And they are not trying to trade him like another paper reported.? So there you have it. Later today, we?ll know for sure who?s right. (Our money is on Tessler.) .
