These are guys we've seen virtually nothing of. I'm not even sure if every one is still on the team. So I'd guess the first cuts will come from them: LB BLAIR PHILLIPS OL STANLEY DANIELS S RON GIRAULT CB RUDY BURGESS RB RODNEY KINLAW TE A.J. SCHABLE WR DAVID BALL
On second thought Mangini is a crafty guy. So maybe he cuts the experienced players now and keeps the rookies until the final day. That way he can waive them all at the end and try to get them onto the practice squad during the confusion/chaos of final cuts. So that means the following might be gone: RB MUSA SMITH TE A.J. SCHABLE OL MATT MCCHESNEY S AHMAD CARROLL LB MATT CHATHAM S JAMES IHEDIGBO
I hope Carroll makes the team as a returner and dime back. I don't want to see Musa Smith cut yet. At least get him to the game on Thursday. Thomas Jones and Leon Washington can sit out the game. Chatman should start and Smith should lead in carries in that game. I'll be there by the way. I can't wait to check out Lincoln Financial Field.
He was definitely dreadful in GB, but he looks to have pretty good return ability and the guy he'd probably be replacing (Miller) is also a connoisseur of the fine art of interfering with passes.
I see your point, Cakes...i think Musa Smith deserves a fair shake to display his skills (he's a great receiving threat out of the backfield as well...pretty versatile back)...but, I don't think the Jets will carry 4 backs on the Active Roster....i think Smith will be the odd man out....not necessarily because of being 'out played', but because Chatman's connection with Schotty..along with having a decent camp. But i guess we'll see....weirder things have happened.
I'm tired of people bashing Barrett. You guys have hated him from the very beginning and I really don't think it is warranted. Granted at times he has allowed a deep pass or two, but who hasn't. He has been fairly solid his entire career here. And you would rather have Carrol? Yeah he is a speed demon, but can't cover a receiver without putting his hands all over him. He is a walking flag machine. I would like to see the guy learn from his mistakes, but he has been the same since his first year in college. I say cut Ahmad Carrol
I 50% agree with your opinion on Carroll...i don't like him as a starting CB because of his penalty trouble...however...he's showing a lot of potential on Special Teams....so i don't think Carroll should be cut...but he shouldn't be playing in the secondary either..till he cleans up his act in regards to taking penalties.
Carrol scares the hell out of me. He's fast but he seems worse than any Jets corner I've seen out there in coverage. He also really does look like a pass interference penalty waiting to happen. Barret isn't starter quality but he wouldn't scare me nearly as much if he had to fill in. He has more experience than any of our CB's in this defense. Miller, while still not starter CB quality has shown improvement in coverage IMO. He's certainly better than Carrol in coverage. He's still scary with potential pass interference but not as scary as Carrol. He can also be an asset on special teams so I don't see where Carrol has any advantage? If you could guarantee that Carrol would never see the field as a CB, I wouldn't mind seeing him on the team. But we need CB depth. After Revis and (I assume) Lowery, who do we have? Miller, Barret, Smith, Poteat, and Carrol? I haven't seen too much of Smith so I can't comment on him.
Caulcrick...will not be getting cut now. He should make team or practice squad. Mattison could make practice squad. Brackins...will have to watch him closer. Did he play against Giants ?
Is there really that big of a difference between getting burned and getting called for a pass interference 40 yards down the field? And I would like to see Barrett play a little safety. That may be were his real value is.
