We were a team with no leadership and now we have one of the greatest field generals of all time. Before Favre came to us, our team leadership was based on loyalty and lockerroom friendships. Welcome to the big leagues boys. Before, during and after the game, Favre is in command and the one the press will seek out for the answers. Wether the other players on the team like Brett or the fact that he was traded for in the first first place doesn't matter. The moment he steps onto the field he is the heart, sole and leader of this team. Even more so than the coach! Our best leadership when we started training camp was a mixed bag at best. Our 5 Best offensive leaders before Favre: 1st - a QB that was benched the year before and was fighting just to have a starting position. 2nd - a RB we traded for last season, who showed hits of greatness last year but has shown nothing this year. 3rd - a WR who is still throwing a baby fit even two weeks after his best friend was sent packing. He was even garranteed his final two years of his contract...he should be the next to go. 4th - a TE who is still under contract and feels he should be paid like a star, even after what at best is an average starting TE performance last year. 5th - last but not least, a great young center in his third year who even on the brink of greatness, keeps getting forgoten because of an average LT that was drafted before him. We had no identity and was a below average team at best, but now we will be the upstart team everyone will be watching and watching out for. One player does not make a team, but he can make it significantly better. With over vastly improved defense which is led by our probowl safety and our second best trade of the decade at NT we are aforce to recon with and not the butt of every football joke. :beer:
Was it me, or did all our QBs have forever to throw last night? favre just hung in the pocket and looked really comfortable. D Brick also looked good from what I've seen
Brick did look really good against great pass rushers. This is his 3rd year, and he looks a lot bigger.
Our pass blocking looks vastly better but unfortunately I don't see the run blocking yet. That will probably come with Favre airing it out and opening the box though.
I really can't wait to watch this game! NFL Channel is replaying it in a few hours, and I'm psyched to watch it. Bless your sweet souls Jets fans for being so great to my hero. You have no idea how happy it makes a lot of us former Packer fans. I just hope he can really help deliver a lot of wins this year. It's going to be so much fun. I was desolate when he retired, but now I get to watch him play again, and under circumstances that are so darn exciting! :jets:

NFL Sunday Ticket BABY! What a wonderful, wonderful thing it is! I recommend it to every football fan. It sucks so bad not to get the games you want to see. It is kind of expensive, but dirt cheap compared to ticket prices. It doesn't kick in till after the preseason though.
Unfortunately Down Under we will see less of Brett this year as we only get selected Fox coverage and the night games on ABC and ESPN so I will be relying on this site a lot to hear how he is going.
It totally sucks that cable doesn't have that too. Nobody needs to be paying for both cable and satellite. I think that will change when the current contract runs out.
I don't know.....Favre seems to have to prove something by throwing 95MPH footballs .....and into crowds no less. We're going to see many a dropped ball this season. Can't he display some 'touch' without blazing it like bazooka?
^Chad throws too slow, Favre too fast. What is wrong here? Edit: I don't know what you're seeing, but he has a very small window to throw it into and its the only option on the field. Without that throw, its picked off. Stop complaining.
BomberJet: Madden coached the Punter Ray Guy and when Guy stopped hitting the 55-60 yarder Madden asked him what was wrong and Guy said he did not want to kick past the coverage and Madden said you kick it as far as you can I'll hire men who can cover. Cmon: These guys are pros, they have to catch the ball no excuses. It isn't an ego thing, the window of opportunity is small in this league because the D is so fast and Favre's ball speed cuts the D's field down because the ball is in the air for a shorter period of time. It's gonna be fun.
Sure he can, but he doesn't like to. That was one of the biggest knocks on him in the early years, that he had no touch. It was true then, but not any longer, because he really has learned it. The thing is, though, he doesn't use it unless the play calls for it. He generally throws the ball as hard as that particular play will allow him to. If the play calls for him to feather it in softly, he'll float it in like a bird landing on its nest, but if there's no particular reason to take anything off of it, it's just his nature to get it there as quick as he can. Your receivers are just going to have to get used to it. If he's throwing to you, you'd better catch it square, because any given play can snap your finger like a toothpick, even if you're not expecting a hard pass in that particular circumstance.
"No more rocket balls, Brett!" is the famous quote from Holmgren to Favre, circa 1993, in one game they were miked. He does have touch though, don't worry. Although it does seem like in games where he really feels he has something to prove, he gets overexcited or something and throws too hard/overthrows. That still was the case as recently as a few years ago.

I keep watching the TD pass that was called back. You know, us Jet fans never had that in the past 8 years or so. After Pennington injury anyway. Even though it was called back, that pass was a thing of a beauty. As the players get comfortable, I expect a lot more of these. Boy, does he look fantastic out there or what!?

There is no doubt about that. As you know, I've been a Chad defender for years *till last year, that is.* He had all the respect and command in the world when he was in that huddle. One thing he never had was that zip on the ball though - and that was his limiting factor. True, the title of the thread is a bit misleading; it's not that the Jets ever lacked a true leader. It's just that Chad just couldn't deliver what an average-armed QB could deliver. Simple as that.
