There are a ton of threads on the defense and other things but none on the O-line......... The Giants manhandled Cleveland last week, how did the Jets O-line do this week against them? All I know about last night is they had a slew of penalties. Favre is not dead and still walking, that is a good thing because last year he would be a carcass. Can someone that watched the game give an objective opinion on Brick and the O-Line in general. Lets get it out of the way now........... Brick is a complete and utter bust........ now that is out of the way, I would like to see some opinions on them..........Thank you in advance as I never got the chance to see the game last night.
For a guy who gets constantly scrutinized on here I've been disappointed about the lack of D'Brick talk. But thats a sign an OT is playing well I guess...
One could be proud of the way D'Brick handled talented pass rushers. Favre had a lot of time on each passing play to get rid of the ball. He once had to run 8 yards for a 1st down, and apparently he hasn't done that in years, according to a few Packer fans. This line stay healthy is the key to a return to respectability. If we take down the Pats in week 2, a tall order, but if its done - everyone will be fearing this team for the rest of the season.
I didn't focus on any single member of the o-line but they looked very good in pass protection against a very good Giants d-line. MUCH better than last year. The run blocking is still nothing to write home about but better than last year IMO. It was hard to get a feel because they didn't run a lot.
I just kept thinking to myself, "Man they are doing it again!", with all the time the QBs had last night. This is really impressive because the Giants ravaged the Browns starting offensive line unit, and the Browns are supposed to be in the top 5 Offensive lines in the league.
That was probably mostly because he doesn't know the offense too well yet. I REALLY don't want to see Favre getting tackled by linebackers because he's running the ball. Especially in a preseason game. I know he's an iron man and all, but he is a Jet now ...
Chase Blackburn of the Giants put a hit on him when he was a foot from the sideline. I actually went off on that because it was a bush league excuse to hit the QB. It was more of no one being open and being flushed out of the pocket, but Favre in the pocket and not being hit would be nice. I think he needs to work on his conditioning a bit more, because I'd like a Favre that can still play strong come week 17 and maybe in January.
We killed Osi.....don't like to see preseason injuries even for the Gmen, but i suppose it was an accomplishment.....
Blackburn like pushed Favre...I didn't see anything dirty about it...it barely looked like Favre got hit.
Blackburn pretty much tackled him from behind, and Favre fell in that foot dragging slide that has injured so many players before. Thats why I was pissed. It was pretty unwarranted. He was a foot from the line.
I'm watching the replay on nfl network right now. The one sack the Giants got on us was not because the o-line didn't block well. It was a poorly designed play that relies on the DE on the play side not staying home. Richardson has to come from left to right to pick him up. Tuck stayed home and just ran right to Favre with no one in front of him.
i was at the game last night, sitting very close, which has it's dis/advantages. i couldn't see the entire OL a lot of the time; but i distinctly remember thinking and even mentioning to people next to me, Wow Favre had a lot of time on that play... edit: forgot. i agree that since Brick hasn't been subject to much criticism in these games thus far, he must be doing well. i'm curious to watch footage on him to see if his run-blocking has improved, perhaps as result of Callahan + Faneca + experience.
During this game, the OL did some pretty good pass blocking. On the other hand, their run blocking didn't muster a helluva lot of push. Nobody got any holes during the first half. Later on, you got some cracks that Chatman was able to find, etc. But nothing really for the RBs to write home about. Faneca allowed as how they have a lot to "clean up" in this regard.
Let's also remember that run blocking is much harder to learn and do with a new unit than pass blocking. It relies more on chemistry along the line, which has to work together as a unit more than in pass blocking. It'll improve before Week 1, and even more as the season progresses.
Beating them week 2 would give us a 1 game lead after beating Miami. With that lead it will come down to how this team does after the bye week. The Jets travel a lot this year, but to shitty teams. Hopefully the jet lag won't take an effect on them. After the bye week, this team could win 5 in a row.
