http://www.thejetsblog.com/2008/08/23/jets-defeat-super-bowl-champs/ I didn't notice Barret playing safety. Hopefully David posts the torrent again this week.
He typicall lines up as deep as a safty while playing corner so we may as well try it out. It may work out for us in the long run.
i think Poteat also lined up at Safety a few downs. the strategy behind this is: you have a CB at S, lined up against a WR. initially, this can confuse the Offense because they see a S on the WR and think mismatch, only to realize it's a CB with good coverage skills.
I saw Barrett at safety and he looked TERRIBLE! I really hope Elam steps it up because I don't have confidence in any of these other guys. I'd rather take a dopey hard hitter than someone who is a total non factor. eddawg, I heard that on the post game show, about the CB covering the WR disguised as a safety to cause confusion, but what happened on at least one of those plays was they handed the ball off to Brandon Jacobs and Barrett got blown up and nearly gave up a TD.
were you at the game? it is difficult to fully assess how he did at a new position based on the limited coverage you get on the TV screen. Jacobs has blown up a lot of would-be tacklers- I wouldnt make a hasty judgement based on that play.
"Kris Jenkins is the best free agent pickup in a generation".... Correction: Jenkins was not a free agent...he was acquired for a 2nd and 5th round pick. "In fairness, they missed a 42 yard field goal because their kicker is injured but the same offense that beat the daylights out of Washington?s defense last week couldn?t do a thing against the re-tooled Jets defense." Correction: The Giants played Cleveland last week..not Washington
I was at the game and that particular play happened right by me. It wasn't Jacobs who blew up Barrett it was the fullback. He got driven back almost 8 yards and Jacobs flew threw unscathed.
Oh, so therefore he must suck. If the CS was satisfied with Smith, Elam et al., they wouldnt feel the need to try him out at S. He is actually one of the better tacklers in the secondary, and Rhodes needs someone who can help him out- Smith looks too slow, and Elam is too dumb.
Maybe they do. I've been critical of how the CS used the personnel they had the past two years, but I'm willing to at least give it a chance- if they decide to experiment with Barrett at S, I'd be willing to give it a little time to see if it works before I wrote it off. He isnt good enough to be a starting CB, but I think there is potential for him to be converted into a S. I, and the CS could be wrong. But i'm willing to give it a chance and I agree with making the attempt to make the position change..
Yeah I definitely agree with your point. No harm in trying. Barrett may as well be a safety since he already plays 10 yards off the receiver as it is.
agreed. i can't stand watching Barrett and his cushion, which has been occurring for 4 years now. if the guy isn't quick enough to press a WR and stick to him, then try him at Safety where his cushion and tackling is a little more apropos. and maybe this is his last chance to succeed, so he better make the most of it.
He has a decent nose for the ball. I guess he can tackle. I do not worry about getting blocked on one play. That happens to everybody. I do know that Eric Smith is too slow and Elam has excellent physical tools for safety but doesn't play smart.
