http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&hl=120687&id=2643 This really sucks for the guy, because his career is most likely over... Raiderjoe, what will Oakland do now? Oh yeah I forgot about Chaz Schilens. He's already the best receiver in the NFL and he doesn't have a single meaningful reception.
It does suck that Drew carter was lost for the season to injury, but unfortunately it is a part of the game. Losing FB Oren O'neal a devasting lead blocker for the season, hurts alot more than D Carter as the running game is the bread and butter of Raiders offense. Really dosen't change anything for the Raiders for the simple fact that everything Raiders do on offense will be off of that running game. Last night Raiders went away from that game plan on purpose, and wanted to throw the football regardless .(See where they are) IT wasn't supprising either the results. Not very good. Raiders aren't good enough yet to `just be able to drop back and pass the ball consistantly through the air. Raiders get in obvious passing situations or fall behind and have to throw. They are going to be in trouble. Unfortunately for the rest of the league, thats not going to happen too often with their running game. What will Raiders do to replace Drew carter, I think you might see Raidersc sign a stop gap Wr this season Eric Parker(lofton knows well) Raiders still have alot of deep threats left that can do what Carter can do. Chaz Schillens and todd watkins.
Teams can load up to try to stop the run, but thats just going to open up the passing game. Raiders defintely have the weapons on offense(TE Zach Miller , DMcfadden and M BUsh coming out of back field as receivers to kill a team that so focused on stopping Raiders running game. Your playing right into Raiders hands. What you want is to get the Raiders into is obvious passing situations. (no threat of the running game) As long as Raiders stay out of too many of those situations. They are going to be fine on offense .
Other than McFadden you had all of that last year and won 3 games. Why do you think it will be any different this year? Because your "qb" put on another 50 pounds?
Because he is built more to play the offensive line and in time that will catch up to him unless he starts to care about it.
The kid is in great shape and has an exceptional work ethic. To say "he doesn't care about it" is pure fiction and possibly wishful thinking. You'd know that if you actually watched him play rather than parroting "JaMarcus is fat" like some of the other dimwits.
No doubt teams are going to gear up to stop the run first when playing the raiders. You put so much in your resources in stopping the Raiders running game. Raiders are going to kill you with the playaction pass. Did you see the Titans game their front seven was playing the run real aggressively, that opened so many areas for Jamarcus russell to exploit in the passing game. How many sacks did a very good Titan Dline get. Raiders in yesterday game weren't playing Raider football. What I mean is the way they going to play on offense once the regular season starts. They purposely wanted to see what there passing game could do ,when teams knew they had to passs. (not leaning on thje running game) IF you read any of my post this year Raiders will be in trouble anytime teams can get them in obvious passing downs. The problem is Raiders shouldn't get in many of those situations.
No simple- IF You're able to run the football consistantly well + Play very good defense + Protect the football= Should win enough games games to be in contention for a playoff spot.
Again, wishful thinking. I see a huge guy with no gut who beats linebackers to the edge. I guess he looks fat through green glasses.
They ran the ball well last year. They also played decent defense. They won 3 games. They go out and waste their first pick on another RB (and I agree he may be a great one). That isn't what they needed.
It's easy to be an armchair GM. If McFadden is a great gamebreaker who eases Russell's transition to a starting QB and Dorsey is injury prone or doesn't live up to the hype, what will you say then? Remember Big Daddy Wilkinson, or even Dwayne "Sapp the Sequel" Robertson? It happens all the time. You just can't say that stuff definitively for a few years. Obviously the Raiders thought McFadden would make the bigger impact on their team, especially considering the investment they've made at QB. They may be right, even if Dorsey is great.
Ok, now I'm confused. So, the Raiders were able to run the ball consistently well last season, had excellent pass defense, added a CB to help with the give/take numbers, and have a rocket-armed QB ready to step in and help avoid turnovers in the passing game...it seems like the only thing missing from your equation is a better run defense. So, why was it better for the Raiders to pick up another RB in the first round and not a DT to help shore up their rush D?
I love the notion that Al had to be senile to think that McFadden might be a better player than Dorsey in the NFL, especially considering that they're building around a young QB. The 'boys picked Emmit to make things easier on Troy, the Colts picked James to make things easier on Manning, but when Al does it it makes no sense and he's "senile." "Al is senile" is the opium of the Jet fan.
