a big shocker here in JT O'Sullivan http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3549399
Alex Smith suffers from #1-itis. An awful team picks a QB who had 1 good year in college and the world expects a #1 performance from him. He was stuck behind an AWFUL line for 3 years which, not surprisingly, let him get flippin wrecked down after down. He honestly had no shot. The 49ers went about their rebuild the wrong way. They drafted a QB #1, then neglected to get him any real weapons/protection. They lucked into Fred Gore. You can't draft a QB and proclaim him your future, then draft straight defense for the next 3 seasons. The real reason the 49ers are so bad now, is the York family. They refuse to put any money into the team, then cry to the fans in San Francisco that they need a new stadium and that the fans don't support the team. Who wants to support the worst owners in the league? Why would anyone goto a game to see their QB get sacked down after down? To see their journeymen, over the hill receivers drop the ball or simply not break coverage? In a nutshell, fuck the York family. Destroyed one of the all-time great franchises to save a few fuckin' bucks. Oh ya, JT isn't that bad, but he's just gonna get hammered in real games too, just like Smith did. No line. No running game. No receivers. No wins.
O'Sullivan played good in Week 1 last year when he replaced Jon Kitna for the middle portion of the game. Kitna would later return to the game. I watched that entire game. I'm not just making shit up here. O'Sullivan is a better QB than Smith and Shaun Hill. I think the 49ers will be in the playoff picture. Whether or not they get in, who knows, but I think they will have a shot when the calendar hits December. I have O'Sullivan backing up Tom Brady in my ff keeper league.
You are giving the 49ers WAY too much credit Mr. Cakes. They suck. Awful division, granted. But the Division was even worst last year, and they still tanked.
The running game is better this year. DeShaun Foster is mediocre, but he adds depth. Gore should be healthier this year. Robinson is better than Foster, but will probably be stuck at 3rd on the depth chart. The WRs corps is better this year. Bruce will be alright. Battle will be better this year. Morgan and Hill are youngsters who will contribute. Johnson is a good 3. The defense should keep them in games most weeks. My biggest concern is the offensive line. I am no 49ers fan at all. I don't care if they do good. I'm just writing it as I see it and I envision them competing for a playoff spot.
Gores' production went down last year because of the OL, which they did NOTHING to improve. Bruce is OTH. Battle has awful hands, he needs that stick-um shit from Little Giants. The only way they produce any wins this year, is if Vernon Davis is healthy and has super human feats of blocking, receiving and running in him.
Kurt Warner part deux? Hey, it could happen. 1. Both former NFL Europe stars 2. Products of a Mike Martz system 3. Stupid haircuts: Warner has the Flat Top, while O'Sullivan has the Flat Top Mullet. These are three of most dominant characteristics a Martz-esque QB must have to succeed.
lol i can see that. its too bad niners were my NFC team to root for in the 90s wow have things changed...
So what NFC team do you like now? Giants, Eagles, or Seahawks? Probably nobody in the South because that division hasn't seen a consistent winner.
