A league source tells Profootballtalk.com that Steelers OT Max Starks' training camp performance "has been among the worst on the entire team."

Pittsburgh doesn't make many personnel blunders, but guaranteeing Starks $6.895 million via the transition tag may be one. He hasn't overtaken RT Willie Colon and would be one pricey swing tackle. The Steelers could've devoted $500,000 more and retained G Alan Faneca with the franchise tag.

I remember there were more than a few Max Starks fans talking back in the offseason.
Thank God we didnt get him. I dont think I've ever seen such a bad TC report.

Hopefully 3 weeks of training camp isn't enough to judge anyone. If so, then we could call Gholston a bust right now as well.

There's a big difference between a rookie and a veteran though... There's no excuse for Starks, while Gholston might be a little behind where the coaches hoped there was no expectation for him to start the season as anything but a backup. If he isn't turning it on in the second half of the season/next year, then we can start to worry.

    Agreed.

This is a guy w/the transition tag that is costing the Steelers almost $7 million on a guarantee.

They could have retained Faneca? "Thank you lord for they know not what they do!"

According to the O-line rankings on NFL.com, Pitt is among the worst this year.

How the hell could the Washington Redskins O-line be tied for 1st????

They should be in the 9-10-11 area w/guys like Jansen, Thomas, Rabach, Kendall & Samuels.
