i was enjoying the blowout until i heard gary and keith say that the mets should give manuel an extension.
Maine and Stokes combine for a 4-hit shutout, Stokes getting his first career save with 4 fine innings.
Cards beat Marlins, 6-4. Phils up 4-0 over Dodgers after 1/2 inning on two-run shots by Howard and Dobbs.
Nomar hits it out in the bottom of the 9th to win it for the Dodgers! And here I thought he had retired! Credit the Dodger relievers also - Penny was awful, but the relievers pitched 6 scoreless innings. Mets and Phils all tied up in first place, Marlins 1.5 games back.
Well I'd reserve judgement till after the season but if the Mets do make the playoffs Manuel should and will get an extension. It's not as if any great managers are going to become available regardless, it's probably the main reason Willie lasted as long as he did.
Gotta make hay this week. It didn't start out too good, but gimme the sweep and keep going through monday with this sched.
Mets up 2-0, and sorry, Gary, but bringing the infield in in the top of the 4th with one out and the score 1-0 is ridiculous - the Nats might be the lowest-scoring team in baseball, but they still average almost 4 runs a game. You can't manage like you think you can't score two runs.
pretty funny comment by gary noting how the expos farm system was decimated when MLB owned them. too bad he didn't go the extra mile for the fans that might not be aware and point out that was when the buffoon minaya was in charge.
I'm very sure that if he had mentioned it, he would have immediately said that MLB refused to put any money in the team, so Omar was put in an impossible position.
it's a shame the mets didn't try to press perez to sign an extension when he was sucking earlier in the year.
