Forgive me if this has been posted recently, but I'd like to see the jets to move Adrian Jones to center. He really didn't show me that much at tackle (not bad, just didn't knock anyone over), and he has quick enough feet to play center. With Mawae balking at renegotiation, let's move on with Adrian at center. If we don't get a QB with our #1 pick, at least we could get our LT for the next 10 years.

For whatever it is worth, I like the youth movement. Unlike what Herm and Boobway thought, our stars of 98 (Mawae, Chrebet, Vinny, Martin) are not the same, and let's start our future now, instead of living in the past. I'm also ok with cutting Pennington--He had a weak arm before either surgery--He gave a lot of grit and heart, but let's face it guys--he showed no arm LAST year BEFORE his second major surgery. I listened to game #2 last year v. Miami, and the Westwood One announcers went on and on about how all his passes were wounded ducks.

At least we're moving forward with a GM who can't be worse than what we had, and a coach that (unlike Edwards) probably passed clock management 101. Let's go jets.

Lets play Chad at middle linebacker. YOU HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO SNAP THE BALL TO PLAY CENTER.

Actually I am a perfect comparison. I play left tackle and I cannot snap a ball worth a shit. It's a hidden talent. You can either do it or you can't. It's hard to really practice and get it right.

Yeah, I'm sure an NFL coach couldn't teach Jones how to snap a football to the QB. I fully understand why you can't figure it out.

Our coach sure couldn't teach him how to play right tackle. What makes you think he can teach him how to snap a ball then block someone?

Not to mention we ran a total of one play that involved Mawae/Kendall pulling last year.

Besides, I was really hoping that Mangold or Eslinger would wind up manning the C position

Goodwin, who played a lot of center, couldn't get the snap up. Kendall, who was a starting center for a few years had trouble getting the ball up.

Snapping is not easy, but I do think it could be learned, but Im not interested in your idea that's for sure.

tomdeb I see where your going with this and I was at one time thinking it too, but when it boils down to it you really can't move him to center because:

-He has never played the position

-he struggled a whole lot trying to run block at RT

-which would mean that he wouldn't be able to handle the likes of Pat Williams, Sam Adams, Wilfork, etc.

-So every time we call a run play his man would have to be doubled teamed because he wouldn't be able to block them on his own.

-Jones is a finesse player and would get destroyed by DT's as a matter of fact I can assure you that 90% of the DT's in the league weight more than Jones.

When it comes down to it, it doesnt make that much sense and we'd be hurting the line a lot and plus Jones' strength is his feet and handling speed rushers so why put him at center?

Yes- double the amount of QB fumbles you had. Great idea!

Thank you NY jets. I am still having nightmares about the Center-QB exchange. When we work out QB's do you think this is something that we will be looking at?

So we sure up the second most important member of the oline, just to experiment with the most important part? Did you remember all the fumble snaps last year?

What the F***? Stop the insanity. Keep Mawae, he is the anchor of the line (and not the dead weight type) He is the best center in football. Mangini should not let him go. Mawae always gave the Pats defenders fits when they played. He is tough, smart, and of the highest character. Mawae is the poster child of what the "new" Jets are looking for.

They are two completely different positions, cannot be compared.

Older, high priced players? I don't think so.

The center position does take a certain skill. It is much harder than all the rest of the o-line positions because you have to spend your first step snapping the ball instead of blocking the defender. Plus at 6'4" he is rather tall for a center.

Is this just another ass-over-end excuse to find room for D'Brickashaw Ferguson, himself undersized?

  17. Jones would be a perfect fit at center and ive been saying so for months. Let's see if the CS recognizes this and if he can snap.

    Snap? Snap?

It ain't just snapping the ball, fellas. Mawae is almost like another QB out there. He makes alot of the line calls and stuff. Thats valuable. You're not gonna be able to replace him with Jones and get any quality production out of him for a long time.

Wow everyone is yelling about how dumb this is, and the only guy on here who has the most knowledge about the oline thinks it is a good idea...

Does he have the athletecism? yes, BUT like what was said before it's not just snapping.
