I don't think Coles is that upset that Favre is the QB. I think it's more that he's just disappointed that one of his best friends got traded and he's sick of all the crap he gets from fans.

Shouldn't have done it like that, though.

I don't know how far this pass was thrown for, but a fan practically called the sky blue and Coles responded back an insult.

To me it just seems Coles got his feelings hurt because a Jets fan is criticizing a FORMER QB who is now playing for a rival team in our division. I enjoy watching this guy play, but someone needs to remind this guy what team he plays for. If he doesn't want to hear shit about Pennington, then maybe after this season, he should consider moving on.

    Its practice. Who cares.

But on a serious note whoever said that can't truly call himself a Jets fan. The Jets need to come together as a team and build some chemistry, and antagonizing the players and pissing them off doesn't help to do that.

Now if only Brett Favre pulled a John Moxon (Varsity Blues) and nailed the fan in between the eyes on the next play...

    Good post.

I have no problem with him not giving any interviews if he is still feeling angry about his friend being released. He is a little bit messed up in the head, but they are paying him to play football, not substitute for Oprah. Better to stay quiet than to say something he'll regret.

The press cant get him to talk, so this becomes their story. Meh. There are some jerks at tc that I have overheard saying ridiculous things, though not usually to the players. But most of the fans there are very respectful to the players and yell out encouragement when they are within earshot.

How old is Coles? Time to grow up, you milked the game for every penny with your act. You got your last contract that you said you wanted. Go out a pro both as a player and as a team mate. Why would Coles want to be remembered as a whiny bitch when he can go out as a fearless warior and true pro.

The Coles incident is not a big deal. Supposedly him and Pennington are best friends and I totally understand an emotional overreaction on his part. It could happen to anyone. He was responding to an immature, disruptive fan who had no business yelling that when the Jets were trying to practice. And when they asked Mangini about it at this morning's press conference, he had nothing but positive things to say about Coles. He said he has been working very hard and hasn't changed at all in meetings or on the practice field since Chad was cut. As a receiver, I'm sure he loves having Brett Favre as his QB.

There is a lot of truth to this. Fans often have a false sense of entitlement because of the money they spend on tickets and merchandise for the team. They somehow lose sight of the fact that the money they spend, IN NO WAY, gives them the right to disobey common standards of civility.

Coles did nothing wrong IMO. Thomas Jones told off a fan at the practice I went to...sometimes fans get too carried away.

While I completely disagree with you, I must say that your Avatar is hilarious. Good work.

Coles is absolutely wrong here, the fan can say whatever they want at any time as long as they do not step onto the field and try to disturb the players. If the fans had done that and got in Coles face, much different story but what the hell is going to happen now if not 1 but 1000 fans say the same EXACT thing at every game he goes to, including at home 8 times a year? Is he going to stick his middle finger and pout? Is he going to jump in the stands and curse at the fan(s)? No, he's gonna have to ignore it and continue to play. By him doing this even at practice tells me has yet to learn how to ignore such things like that.

Coles is a solid player but give me a break about getting so overworked over 5-6 words. Jesus there's families and MUCH more people now in TC with Favre around, you cannot be doing that no matter what the reason is.

I went to the Dolphin game last week with my sons Football team (Free tickets) and I wore my Jets jersey of course. (Got to get into it with the fish). I was having a good conversation with an older Dolphin fan and this drunk idiot comes running up and says we got Pennington you Jets are stupid. I laughed and said " Enjoy the 3 yard dump passes" . I continued my conversation and we came to the agreement that Laveranues Cole's will be a dolphin just as soon as his contract comes to a close. Is 2009 voidable or is it binding? I have always had the opinion that Cole's leaving to fill his pockets was more important to him , then Team pride or legacy! as will the second time he leaves!

So Jets fans can be rude to Penny, but his former teammates can't defend him?

I don't blame the fan it was a comment that is 100% true and Coles reacts that way.........i defend our players most of the time but the guy is a Vet, he should know better and it's about time he stopped crying and just got on with things.

If the fan had insulted Chad personally or insulted Chads family, then go ahead Coles but it was a innocent comment that was true of the situation.

How is it being rude? Chad couldn't of made the throw......its not like he insulted him personally, he just made a observation. Are we going to defend a foul language verbal attack from one of the vet players on our team towards a fan who made a correct observation.

So what exactly did the fan say that was rude? It's too late to get rid of Coles now, but this should be addressed next offseason. Also, considering the amount of hits Coles has taken through the years, his clock is ticking anyway.
